Reminiscence ♥️

It felt like I was telling stories to a couple of kids surrounding me. Everyone was so attentive and occasionally, someone would ask questions...

I gave them a glimpse of what it was like to grow up in an orphanage. That sometimes, life doesn't have to be overtly abundant to enjoy it. I've got good memories with the people I used to be surrounded with... and from those good memories, I've started receiving questions about how I was able to meet my adoptive parents.

I happily told them about my best friend and older sister, Min-hee and  I thought there is no way I would skip a part that despite its painful implication on my childhood, should be emphasized as it was an act of selflessness and love.

I was old enough to understand when appa and eomma told me about Min-hee's sacrifice in order for them to find me. My voice began to tremble as memories of China came back to me.

I was so young yet that day was vividly imprinted on my mind. That whenever I go back, the sensation of dread, fret and hunger once again fills me.

Tears finally released as I voiced out how I felt about my friend who faced a saddening adversity while luck has been good to me.

My husband held me closer and told me that it's enough...

But this is for Min Hee.

I want them to know what she has done for me and what a good friend she was.

My brother eyed me in morose as I continued the story...

Pain was painted all over his face as I told everyone that I didn't even know when exactly is my birthday... nor a last name to be proud of...somehow.

This was suppose to be good 'childhood' memories yet I didn't realise how sad life was for me until now that everything came out from my very own mouth, decoded from a child's memories and absorbed by a now adult's fragile mind.
