Loud footfalls echo across the hallways, accompanied by the guttural growls and hisses of the walking corpses- a stark contrast to the soothing meditation music blasting though the speakers.
Wu-Jin glances outside the window, surprised by the hoard of zombies running in a mad dash towards the speakers in the open area.
"They're running towards the speakers." He says, looking at at us.
"You mean it actually worked?" Dae-Su looks amazed.
Wu-Jin positions himself in between me and Dae-Su near the doorway.
Dae-Su is about to slide the door open, but Su-Hyeok startles us to a stop. He's positioned on top of one of the cabinets, peering outside through the glass near the ceiling.
"What? What is it?" Dae-Su asks, a bit miffed.
Su-Hyeok looks down at Dae-Su. "There's one left."
Dae-Su gulps, peeling the newspaper off the glass to peek outside. He hisses, eyes blinking rapidly as he stares at the zombie with its leg stuck in a cone, limping towards the speakers at the end of the hallway.
"We can go now." Su-Hyeok confirms, scanning the hallway one more time.
Dae-Su nods, preparing to slide the door open once again.
"Check the left side first." Wu-Jin instructs, placing his hands on Dae-Su's shoulders.
Dae-Su slides the door open, peering to his left. His gaze lands on the hoard of zombies climbing on top of each other to get to the speakers. As Dae-Su is about to step outside, a soft thump catches his attention. He turns to his right and sees a lone zombie bumping his head on the wall, his back turned to us.
"Aish." Dae-Su sneers, dragging himself back inside the classroom.
Wu-Jin, who also sees the zombie, pulls Dae-Su's leg inside.
"What the fuck, Bare-Su?" Dae-Su grunts. "I could've died!"
Su-Hyeok scrunches his eyebrows, peering out the glass once again. He spots the lone zombie and sighs irritably. He crouches and jumps off the cabinet, landing beside me.
"Maybe we should wait awhile." Su-Hyeok suggests, glancing at me.
I look at the others, each one having a crestfallen expression. "I don't think we can wait that long."
I stand and peak outside, seeing the zombie bumping his head on the wall.
"What is he doing?" Dae-Su asks. "Is there something wrong with him?"
"Not anymore than you." Wu-Jin quips.
"Wu-Jin, that's not a nice thing to say." I chastise, shaking my head disapprovingly.
He smiles sheepishly. "Sorry, you're right."
My lips form a thin line. "Maybe we can walk pass him if we stay as quiet as possible."
"Will that actually work?" Joon-Young asks, hoisting his backpack higher.
I shrug. "We can try. It's better than staying here another night."
"The recording might stop soon." Nam-Ra reminds. "We really have to go."
"Right." I nod once, preparing to slide the door open.
"Yah, let me go first." Dae-Su interrupts, pulling my hand off the handle. "Just stay behind brother-in-law."
From behind me, I hear On-Jo tell Ji-Min to stay beside her as well.
Dae-Su slides the door open, crawling on his knees. He's followed by Wu-Jin, who takes my hand as I follow silently behind him. Su-Hyeok's close behind, I can feel his palm softly pressed against the small of my back as he guides me forward.
