The aggressive growls of the zombie laying beneath the broken piano mixed with the grinding of its teeth ring loud in my ears.

My eye twitches.

I've always hated that sound, and now it's twice as loud and my head throbs in pain.

What the fuck is happening?

"Aish, can someone shut that thing up?" Gyeong-Su sighs irritably, glaring at the zombie.

"You can do it yourself if it annoys you so much." Joon-Young says, rolling his eyes.

"Nevermind, I don't have a death wish."

"You might not die, you know." Dae-Su pipes in. "Maybe you'll turn into a hambie too."

"A hambie?" Gyeong-Su asks. "The fuck is that?"

"Half human, half zombie." Dae-Su points his chin towards my direction. "Like Na-Ri."

"We don't even know what she is yet." Joon-Young reminds.

"She's Na-Ri." Wu-Jin says, tone clipped. "It doesn't matter if she's human, zombie, or a... hambie. She's still Na-Ri, nothing's changed."

"It must be so hard for you, brother in law." Dae-Su exhales, tapping Wu-Jin's shoulder. He pauses, "On second thought, it might not be so bad having a hambie as a girlfriend. In the movies, they're super strong- it's like they have super powers. Do you think it'll be same for Na-Ri?"

"Aish, what are you talking about?" Wu-Jin blushes. "She's not my girlfriend."

"But you want her to be."

Dae-Su yells when Wu-Jin punches his arm harshly, making everyone turn to their direction.

Everyone looks clueless, but they don't know that I can hear them.

"Tch. Jang Wu-Jin, that idiot. Can't even say it to my face."

I smile, looking down at my hands. It's nice to feel appreciated, and Wu-Jin has always been kind to me... I guess that's why.

"They can never stay quiet for too long." Su-Hyeok muses from beside me.

"I wouldn't have them any other way." My smile widens. "They provide comedic relief- it's nice."

The room turns quiet after that, and the background noise bombard my ears once again.

I hear the sound of a zipper opening and closing. I twist my body from where I am seated in front of the window, finding Joon-Young with his head rested on top of his bag, fingers twiddling with the zipper.

I hear Dae-Su's stomach rumble wildly, making him clench his fist to ease the pain.

A soft thump resonates inside the storage space of the music room, and I make a mental note to check it later.

Wu-Jin adjusts his position on the chair, lifting himself up slightly and slowly releasing a puff of air.

I raise a hand to my lips to stiffle a laugh, and our gazes meet.

"What?" He asks, eyes wide in surprise.

I giggle, shaking my head and mouthing "Nothing."

When my gaze lands on Cheong-San, I'm surprised to find he's already staring at me. I focus my attention solely on him- the rapid sound of his heartbeat, the way his breath hitches when I finally look at him. He leans forward, like he wants to walk over to me but then stops himself. His heart beats louder, and I can feel how nervous he is.

"It's strange." I begin.

"Hm? What's strange?" Su-Hyeok asks, turning his attention to me.

"I can hear everything." I turn to him, breaking eye contact with Cheong-San. I raise my palm to his chest. "I can hear your heartbeat." I lean closer to him, gaze never faltering. "It's beating faster now. What's making you so nervous, Su-Hyeok-ah?" I bite my lower lip nervously. "Are you scared I might end up hurting you?"
