I turned off the water to the shower. Yes, a real shower. I haven't had a real shower since the beginning. Sure, I've bathed in creeks, and wiped myself off with excess water to bring back some sense of life into me. But a real hot shower, with soap, and clean water. It might just be the best things i've felt in a long time. This all felt like a dream, we have food, electricity, hot water, clean clothes, beds. You name it, it's here. It's almost too good to be true.
I got changed into some clean clothes and started heading towards Carol's room. I wanted to talk to her about Daryl. Besides Merle and I, he's probably closest to Carol. She knows how he works, she understands him the same as me. I figured if i was gonna talk to someone about him it might as well be her.
"Hey Carol?" I inquired, knocking gently on the side of her door, which was cracked open slightly. she opened the door fully and motioned for me to come in, moving the door back to its previous position. I looked at her questionably.
"I don't trust this place." she said shaking her head.
"I don't either, it's too good to be true, you know?" Carol nodded.
I took a breathe, "Um Carol? Do you know why Daryl isn't speaking to me? He hasn't said anything to me since the camp." Looking down i fiddled with my fingers. Carol patted the spot next to her on the bed offering me to sit beside her, i did.
"You know your brother, he puts on a tough act, no matter how he feels or what's going on he tries his best to make it seem as everything's okay, he tries to stay strong, especially for you." She took a breathe moving the beads around on her bracelet, "He's scared, anxious. He was afraid he lost you, and after losing Merle, I think he blames himself, and in a way I believe he's punishing himself. I would try talking to him. Thats about all you can do."
"Alright, Im gonna go speak with him." I said standing up, Carol nodded with a smiled and pulled me into a hug as she stood up, kissing my head softly.
"Thank you." I smiled, and Carol just smiled back.
I was walking down the hall towards Daryl's room, fiddling with my fingers anxiously, I was looking at the ground, watching my feet move swiftly, not paying attention to sights ahead of me.
I felt someone collide into my side, hitting my broken ribs slightly. Both of us stumbling to the ground, I winced in pain and looked up to see Carl.
"I'm sorry i wasn't paying attention to where i was walking." I groaned in pain, holding my side.
He gently helped me up, "No need to apologize, Are you alright?" Carl examined my body with concern.
I nodded, "I'm alright, promise."
"You seem uneasy, what's up?" He asked, slight worry in his voice.
"I'm going to talk to Daryl, he's been off lately, he hasn't talked to me since camp." I sighed
Carl smiled, "Don't be so anxious, it'll be fine, promise." He assured. I smiled back. I really hope he's right.
I stood at my brothers door. Nervous to knock. I took a deep breathe, preparing myself for the conversation about to come. I knocked on the door.
