The police guarding the scene let me in and I go to find the detective. I flash my badge at the detective, "Special Agent Larose. I'm with the FBI." She looks at me, "the FBI is already on this case? It happened a few hours ago." "Well, me, my partner, and two others were in a town a couple of hours away. They sent me to come to investigate, since this case is so... abnormal," I explain. She nods, "well, what do you want to know?" "Can you walk me through the scene?" She pulls over a CSI who leads me around the scene.
The CSI leads me to the bedroom, "I'm Wendy." "Special Agent Larose." She smiles, "so, the victim was lying in bed, we assume asleep. The attacker came in through the window, however, there is no sign of fore entry anywhere other than the window being unlocked. And every other window here is locked, so that is why we assume they came through there. Then the victim got stabbed in the stomach, where her child was. There was a large object stabbed in her stomach. The attacker got the baby, took the heart out of it, and left the rest of the baby with the mom. Then we assume the mother died from injuries to major organs. But, despite that, the attacker drained almost all of her blood."
"Any idea why," I ask. Wendy shakes her head, "no. I'm a forensic scientist, not a psychologist. But they took the heart so that does scream psychopath. Maybe a satanist. Who knows?" "Any idea what the attacker's identity is?" She shakes her head again, "we don't know. But there was no DNA on the body, so we are assuming it can be a female. Men tend to be more careless and spontaneous when they kill, women however carefully plan it out. Women are more meticulous than men."
I thank her and walk back to the detective, "who found her?" "Her best friend, they were living together." "Where is she at now?" "At the station for questioning. We have to take all possibilities into account." "Okay, can I speak with her?" The detective sighs, she wants to say no- I can tell that much- but she agrees anyway, "yeah, I'm about to head over there if you want to come." I nod, "okay."
I get in the passenger seat of her police car and we drive to the station. When I get in there the detective tells a deputy to lead me to the interrogation room where the best friend is. "Turn off cameras and all sound recording," I demand. The deputy rolls her eyes but agrees anyway. I sit across from the best friend, "hello, there. My name is Kelly. I am with the FBI. What is your name?" "Jenny," she answers, "I promise I didn't do it. I would never do that to her. She was pregnant. Who would do this?" I smile to try to calm her, "relax. I don't think you killed her. I just need you to walk me through everything that happened."
She stays quiet. "Look, the police can't hear you or see you. I promise, whatever you tell me stays between us. I think someone murdered your friend, but I do not think it was you. The intruder came in through the window, you lived in the house. Every sign points away from you. So, please, talk to me." She looks at me, like a deer in headlights, but she does speak, "I went out to a friend's house. Finley wanted to stay home, said she didn't want to get pressured to drink alcohol since she was pregnant. I ended up getting too drunk to drive. I tried to call Finley but she didn't answer the phone. I just assumed she was sleeping. But, when I woke up this morning and returned home, she was dead. And her baby laying beside her, the baby had a hole where his heart was. Who would kill a girl only to steal the unborn baby's heart? Who would do that?"
I give her a sympathetic look, "I am so sorry you had to witness that. Did Finley have any enemies who would want to hurt her? Anyone at all?" "No, I mean, yeah, I guess. Her ex-boyfriend, he was abusive and always dealing drugs, and getting in trouble for that. When Finley got out of the relationship after she found out she was pregnant, he threatened to kill her because she left him, taking with his unborn child with her. But Finley left to protect the baby from his dad. She didn't want her child to go through the same thing she went through with her ex." "What is his name?" "Henry Brown." "Is that it? No girls had any hate towards her at all?" "No, I told you it was just her ex. Do you think he killed her? I mean he threatened to take the baby once it was born and kill her, but the baby wasn't even born yet." I frown, "I'm not sure. But I will find out what happened to her, I promise. And her killer will not get away with this or kill anyone else."
