I came to in a hospital room, blinking as the harsh lights flooded my vision. I could hear machines beeping and the sound of someone snoring. Correction multiple someones snoring. I turn to my right and see Ransom asleep at an awkward angle in a chair by the head of my bed, his hand holding mine.
I look over to my left and Archer, Mom and Linda are all squished on the couch. I squeeze Ransom's hand and he jumps awake, panic making his pupils dilate and dart around the room, looking for a threat, before turning to look down at me. I watched as relief flooded them as he saw that I was awake.
"Morning sweetheart. You gave us quite the scare." He says quietly.
"What happened? Where's the baby?" I ask, looking around the room.
"He's fine. He's ok." I sigh in relief. "Actually he's more than ok. He's perfect Benny." He smiles.
"You must have been really scared if you're calling me Benny without fear of retribution." I say with a small smile.
"God, I thought I'd never see you smile again." He says, tears in his eyes.
"What happened?" I ask.
He takes a deep breath. "After he was born, you started losing a lot of blood. I was told to leave and they rushed you to the OR. You hemorrhaged during labor. They did all the could but..." he's struggling to continue.
"What? What did they do?" I ask but Ransom is saved from explaining by the doctor coming in.
"Oh good, you're awake." She says, quickly checking my chart. "How're you feeling?"
"A lot of discomfort, down there." I say gesturing to my lower abdomen.
"That is to be expected. Has anyone had a chance to bring you up to speed on what happened?"
"Not yet." I say, looking at Ransom.
"Well you had lost a lot of blood and we rushed you into surgery, hoping we could fix it..."
*Flashback*
Ransom's POV
"Mr. Drysdale, there was more damage from the birth than we originally thought. Our only course of action, really, is to perform a partial hysterectomy, removing the uterus."
I wasn't prepared to make this decision for her. "Is this going to save her?"
"The trauma is centered in the uterus. Removing it should prevent any further damage, giving her the best odds."
I sigh. "Do whatever it takes to save her." Her doctor nods before going back to the OR.
*End of Flashback*
Bentley's POV
I take a shaky breath. "So I won't be able to have any more children?"
"You won't be able to carry anymore children. However, your ovaries are still intact. If or when you are ready to have another baby, there are some options available to you." She explains.
I nod. "Thank you Dr. Montgomery."
She smiles. "Of course. Let me go get someone to bring in your son." She quietly shuts the door behind her but it was enough to wake up the occupants on the couch.
My mom rushes over when she sees I'm awake. "Oh sweet pea. Thank god you're ok!" She says, carefully hugging me.
"Please don't cry Mom. Like you said, I'm ok." I say, patting her arm. I'm scared from anymore tears by the nurse coming in with my baby.
"Someone's really excited to see his mama." She says, picking him up and gently placing him in my arms.
"Hi bub." I say softly. His eyes open and I'm blown away by how they're the exact color as Ransom's. "I'm so glad you're finally here."
Ransom gently gets in the bed beside me, smiling down at our son. "We still need to name him."
I take my eyes off of him for just a moment to look at Ransom. "I'm still sold on the one we picked." I say before turning back to our baby.
"But the middle name..." He whines.
"Tough shit. I just went through hell to bring him into this world so I'm pulling rank." I say and he laughs.
Once everyone is here, crowding my hospital room, we're ready to announce his name. Paris is sitting in Ransom's lap, staring at her baby brother with a mix of wonder and annoyance. I chuckle. "That didn't take long." I say to Ransom, nodding towards our daughter.
"Everyone, we'd like to introduce you to Baker Ransom Drysdale." Ransom says, only slightly groaning at his middle name. My mom starts to cry again and Linda starts in on Ransom for making a face about using his middle name.
I gently lift Baker and kiss his cheek. "Welcome to the family Baker," I whisper to him. "You were named after the greatest guy ever, just don't tell your daddy. Your grandpa would have loved to meet you but I know he loves you so much." I shed a tear, feeling my dad in the room with us and I was at peace.
