I turn on the hot water, running a bath for myself. It had been four days since Langdon showed up and I was yet to get an interview. He interviewed Gallant and his Nana so far. I wondered when it was my turn. I only had just met him a few days ago when he told us about the interview and something felt familiar about him. I take off my clothes and stepped into the hot water. I let out a groan as I sink into the soapy water. The bubbles covered everything as I lean back and let my hair out of the best bun. I run my fingers through my Raven colored hair and begin to close my eyes. The rose scent in the air was driving me crazy. I didn't know what about it I couldn't stop thinking about. It seemed I was the only one smelling it though. Suddenly my room had gotten cold and I lift my head. I let out a gasp when I notice the bubbles in the water were all gone and my water felt like ice. I shiver as I stand from the water and grab my towel. Had I fallen asleep? I don't even remember dozing off. Woosh! I feel the breeze enter the bathroom and my breath hitched in my throat. "Just...a draft" I try to tell myself. I slowly walk over to the mirror and begin brushing my teeth. I bend down, rising my mouth and suddenly when I looked back at the mirror I see the white face in the mirror. "Ah!" I screamed in horror as I shut my eyes, placing my hand over them. I waited for something to happen, anything to grab me. My body shakes, my hands trembling as I slowly uncover my eyes. I look over my shoulder to see that I was alone. What the hell had happened?
The next morning I had told Gallant about what had happened last night. "Okay, so you fell asleep and had a bad dream?" He suggested. I huffed "No, I'm telling you Gallant. I was awake." He arched a brow "Oh come on, she's obviously faking it. Just like how she faked her passing out" Coco accused me. "I didn't fake anything" I tell her. She rolled her eyes "Whatever, you're seeking attention and I know exactly what you're doing. And I let Langdon know" she informed me. "What?" I asked her. "Yeah, I told him all about your acts to seek attention" she smiled. "Why were you even talking about me at all?" I questioned. "He asked who I thought wouldn't be worthy of going to the Sanctuary and I gave him an honest answer" she shrugged. I was pissed and Gallant took notice. "Who knows, maybe you're sick? You know he won't allow sick people into the Sanctuary. So you might as well kill yourself now" Coco tells me with a fake smile. I rise from my seat and slowly walk over to her "Remember how I warned you to stay out of my business?" I reminded her. "It might ring a bell..." Coco says. I was quick to grab ahold of her head and knocking it onto the coffee table. She falls onto the floor "What the hell!" She shouted as she held onto her head. "Athena!" Gallant yelled at me. I kneel down to height "Now...learn to stay out of my business and keep my damn name out of your mouth or a headache will be the worse of your worries" I hissed out. "What's going on?" Ms.Meads asked as she stepped into the room. I slowly stand and turn to Meads, a smile on my face. "Coco fell, I'm only helping her stand" I lied, extending my hand to Coco. She was quick to take my hand and I pulled her from the floor, gripping her hand harshly. "Careful next time? Someone might not be so kind" I give her my fakest smile before turning and leaving the room. I felt much better, maybe she would finally get the hint that I am one not be messed with.
My eyes are reading the words on the paper in the book as I'm sitting in the sofa in the library. Suddenly the smell of roses over power the room and I lifted my head to see Langdon at the bottom of the spiral stair case. "You're down here again, past curfew" he spoke not yet moving from the bottom step. "I had to get away from my bedroom" I tell him. "And why's that?" He questioned. My mind flickered back to the white face demon I saw in my mirror. I closed my book "No reason other than light to read" I lied to him. He strides over to me as I stood up from the sofa, my robe slightly falling off my shoulder. The rose scent gets even strong, causing me to step away from him. "Uh...I think I'll just head to bed" I cleared my throat. "Actually, no" he shakes his head. "Unless you don't want to go to your interview..." He added. "Right now?" I asked him. "Follow me..." He brushed past me and the rose scent almost engulfed me. He walked over to the spiral stairs and I slowly turn and follow him up them. We walked down the hall and I kept looking over my shoulder to make sure nobody had seen us and was following. He stopped just two doors down from my bedroom and turned to the set of double doors. Why hadn't I noticed how close his room was to mine until now? He's been here for days and it's the middle of the night. He unlocked the door and opened it before stepping inside. I slowly step inside and my eyes take notice of the brown wallpaper and dark oak floor. There's a fireplace on one side of the room with a brown leather sofa in front of it. A few feet away sits a desk with a stack of folders sitting on it. A brown leather chair sits in front of it. Langdon shut the door behind me before walking over to his desk and sitting down on the black chair "Come, sit..." He ordered with a wave of his hand. I hesitate for a second before I walk over to the leather chair and sit down. Neither of us say a word at first. My eyes traveled to the fireplace. I envy how the flames dance freely along the log. They were free, nothing telling them where they could go or how they could move. "I'm going to be very clear with you Miss Adams..." He looked through the stack of folders, his voice catching my attention. "I will ask you questions and you must tell the truth. If you hedge I will know. If you lie I will know. And if you try to trick me, I will know and this interview will be over and you will die her painfully" his words felt harsh to my ears. "Are we clear?" He asked. I slowly nodded "What is your name?" He asked me. "Uh...Athena" I gulped down. "Your last?" He asked me, opening the folder in front of him. "I...Adams" I lied. "Need I remind you, I will know if you lie" he spoke. "Right..." I breathed out. "I don't know my last name" I confessed. He knit his brows together "Why's that?" He asked me. "Six years before the bombs fell a man found me unconscious on his front lawn in Los Angeles" I begin to explain to him. "I was dyhrated and didn't know how I gotten there" I explained. "No memory of my previous life" I added. I lowered my head and stare at my hands. "The man was kind to me, gave me a place to stay and a job" I tell him. I feel the pain when my mind remembers Sameul Adams, my best friend. A tear formed at my waterline. "Sameul Adams?" Langdon spoke his name, causing me to lift my head. A tear escaped my eye and I quickly wiped it away. "Yeah..." I say. "Why his last name?" He asked me. "He was a good man, a kind person when I needed one. He couldn't taken advantage of me but instead he helped me" I say. "There aren't many people like that, especially now...so I thought a way to remember him would be to use his last name. Since I couldn't remember my own" I informed Langdon. He didn't press harder, moving on. "Ms.Venable tells me you have fainting spells, is that something that usually happens?" He asked me. I knew this would come up sooner or later. "No" I shake my head. "But you woke up from an unconscious state six years before the bombs, you fainted when you arrived here and then when I did. Is that not a pattern?" He pointed out. "When I got here I didn't faint, they gave me something. I felt the man stick a needle into my neck. He said it was to keep me calm" I tell Langdon. "There's no record of that in your file" he informed me. "Of course, does that file also tell you that days before I fainted Ms.Venable had me stripped down and decontaminated for her own amusement?" I asked him with harshness in my tone. He leaned back in his chair, arching a brow as he stared at me. "It's getting late, how about to continue this another time?" He suggested to me. "You're dismissed" he spoke, turning his attention back to the folder on his desk. I nodded and quickly left the room. Another interview? I would have to sit through that again?
