Uncle Albert and I have plans for today. I made plans with Spencer to meet up over summer.

He doesn't know that we're going to meet in a few hours.

By a few hours, I mean a few minutes.

I signed up last for the talent show, so I go last.

Nobody has sang yet, everyone has danced or done something stupid.

My entire family is here for this.

Spencer's family is here for this, but Spencer thinks they're just here to be here.

"And that seems to be all." The music teacher says. The assistant principal runs out with a pass.

"Oh wait, there's one more. There's no name. Um, please welcome the next person, I guess."

The lights go out.

I look at Uncle Albert, terrified.

"Go kill em, kid."

I take a deep breath and walk out onto the stage.

People are whispering.

The piano starts, but the lights stay off.

2am; where do I begin,

Crying off my face again.

The silent sound of loneliness

Wants to follow me to bed.

I'm the ghost of a girl that I want to be most.

I'm the shell of a girl that I used to know well.

Dancing slowly in an empty room,

Can the lonely take the place of you?

I sing myself a quiet lullaby.

Let you go and let the lonely in

To take my heart again.

Too afraid to go inside

For the pain of one more loveless night.

Cause the loneliness will stay with me

And hold me till I fall asleep.

I'm the ghost of a girl that I want to be most.

I'm the shell of a girl that I used to know well.

Dancing slowly in an empty room,

Can the lonely take the place of you?

I sing myself a quiet lullaby.

Let you go and let the lonely in

To take my heart again.

Broken pieces of

A barely breathing story

Where there once was love

Now there's only me and the lonely.

Dancing slowly in an empty room

Can the lonely take the place of you?

I sing myself a quiet lullaby
