I woke up early in the morning, the sky was bright. The birds were chirping and enjoying the cool breeze. The dew drops were falling from the leaves of the plants. The grass was wet due to the dew drops. The sun was rising up from the clouds. i went downstairs for breakfast after getting ready for the day. Since as early as I seem to remember whenever my birthday came around My grandma always made sure she cooked me a big birthday breakfast. Breakfast was my favorite to eat and no one made it better than my grandmother. when i reached the table There was a hug of breakfast upon the table, Four eggs for breakfast, fried in a brushing of olive oil, lightly salted along with soft pancakes and berries, as warm as they would be in the sun, maple syrup threaded upon the top.
everyone joined the table except zach and millie. abruptly ryan asked grandma about millie's whereabouts and the reason she didn't joined us. grandpa answered that millie had gone to catch up with some friend of hers. ryan hummed. " what 'bout zach?"- dad asked.
" we don't know. he barely stays at home."- grandpa answered.
all of a sudden grandma asked me about my decision. i kinda freaked out and was thinking 'bout chickening out but when i saw ryan glaring at me, i knew what i had to say.
" well, after quiet some thinking i believe that i can and should adopt a hybrid."- i replied.
"really honey, thats some great news."- mom stated.
dad exclaimed that he was very proud of us that we are finally getting some responsiblity. grandpa and grandma were so happy and kept on asking us that you really sayin' yes. ryan was also overjoyed by the news and tbh i was kinda suspicious about something. something just felt off. grandma and grandpa stated that by dinner they would get everything ready as in the documents and other stuff along with our gifts. mom and dad shooed us away from the kitchen as they had some surprise and it was meant to be seen during dinner itself.
i decided to catch up with my friend jessica who was also visiting her grandparents at the moment in the same town as well as the neighbourhood as me.
i called her to catch up and she agreed to meet at sunrise cafe whose address she texted me. i changed up and went to the cafe to meet yuri.
as i entered the cafe i was greeted by the the colour of supermarket oranges, it has that shiny look, and the jazz pours out of the open doors along with the aroma of fresh baked lasagne.
It's early and the machines are yet to warm, so I ponder this chance to rest a moment longer, to drink in the aroma of this place. The barista has tired eyes, yet there is that glimmer, a give away of her good heart. She's one of those surviving sparks, one of the ones who held on to who they really are. I ask for my danish to be warmed, apologizing amid my own tired smile, "Sorry, I'm just feeling like being a bit of a fuss pot today."
I see her spark glow a little brighter, her face more relaxed, a smudge more joy in her eyes, "That's alright, dear, you be a fuss pot."
I laugh unexpectedly, and I know that I'm feeling that tiny bit better too, "Thanks for indulging my fuss-pot-ism. I needed that."after a while, yuri came and i rushed to hug her. "hey, its so nice to meet you after so long."
" same here daisy, for a second there i couldn't recognize you. you look so different but yet somehow familiar."
we and yuri finally met and i was overwhelmed about our meeting. i was so happy to talk yo someone that i could relate so much. we were extremely indulged in our conversation that we lost track of time. i got to know so many changes about her life and even so we met the a few hours ago, i poured my heart out about everything thats going on in my life and how my grandparents wanted me to adopt a hybrid including the insecurities along with struggle that i was facing. she was so understanding, i was shocked that she herself adopted a hybrid.
she guided me on her experiences as an adopter as well as how she felt in the inital stages furthermore how her relationship developed with her hybrid.
out of nowhere the barista interrupted us and told us that its time to close the cafe. i glanced at the time on my phone and realized that i was late for the dinner.
yuri offered to drop me and we agreed to meet again along with our respective hybrids and just catch up again. as yuri's car stopped in front of my grandparents home i came out of car and said our goodbyes.
i was so happy to meet her today and meeting her was like getting a medicine to forget all the problems and complications in my life. as soon as i reached the porch and rang the bell, the door was opened by mom bombarding me with questions and the reason why i was late. she told me to change and quickly join the dinner table as everyone was waiting for me.
i happily went to my room and changed. i skipped downstairs and as soon as i entered to room all eyes were on me and there was this awkward silence which turned my mood from happy to gloomy and nervous really fast.
i sat on my seat and then my grandpa clinked his glass of wine for some announcement and then turned to me and ryan.
