"DO you know your name?" dr. owens asked, voice soft but firm as he sat in front of will.
"will," he answered, his voice small.
"your full name?"
"william byers."
"do you know... do you know who i am?" dr. owens asked again, studying will's expression closely.
"a doctor."
"have we met before?"
will hesitated. "i don't remember."
dr. owens hummed, nodding slowly like he was expecting that. "hm, you don't remember me?"
will shook his head.
"okay," owens murmured, then gestured toward mike and jordyn, who were standing nearby. "how about these two right here?"
there was a long pause. too long.
mike and jordyn both stiffened, exchanging a nervous glance. jordyn's stomach twisted, her heart picking up pace.
"it's alright, take your time," owens encouraged.
will blinked, his brows knitting together like he was struggling to pull the memory from the fog in his brain. finally, after what felt like forever, he spoke.
"those are my friends. mike and jordyn."
jordyn let out a breath she didn't even realize she was holding.
"what about me, kid?" hopper stepped forward, eyes filled with something jordyn couldn't quite place. worry? hope? maybe both.
"they tell me you helped save me last night," hopper continued, voice rough but gentle. "you remember that? do you remember anything about last night? about what happened?"
will's face twisted in distress. "i remember they hurt me," he murmured.
"you mean the doctors?" owens asked.
"no," will said, shaking his head. "the soldiers."
owens expression darkened. "the soldiers hurt you?"
"they shouldn't have done that," will whispered. "it upset him."
jordyn felt a chill run down her spine. "who?" she asked before she could stop herself.
will turned his head toward her, and for a moment, it was like he wasn't really looking at her. like he was looking through her.
"okay," owens said, standing up. "i wanna try something. it's gonna seem a little odd at first, but i think it's really gonna help us understand what's going on. is that okay?"
joyce hesitated, but nodded.
owens gestured to one of the lab workers, who rolled in a containment cart. inside was a squirming, slimy, severed piece of a demogorgon.
