After what felt like years of Brendon rambling incessantly about his little so-called "entanglement" with Pastor Ryan, he finally received the message that Mikey and Pete wanted some alone time. They were surprised he didn't catch onto that sooner, considering they had barely made any comments about Brendon's story, with the exception of some "wow's", "yep's", and "okay's". They were too busy making the occasional awkward eye contact or shifting around on the bed so a part of their body's would be touching without it being suspicious to Brendon.
"See you guy's tomorrow," Brendon yelled a little too loud, extending his arm and waving as he walked out of the dorm, closing the door behind him. Mikey and Pete looked at each other for a moment, their minds simultaneously racing a million miles a minute. They both had so many things they wanted to say to one another, their day's had both been so eventful; they didn't know where to start. Pete ended up breaking the ice.
"So, did you catch any of that?" Pete giggled, referring to Brendon's spiel about Pastor Ryan. He scooted in even closer to Mikey, close enough to touch. He paused himself right before actually making physical contact, though, just to ensure he wouldn't make him uncomfortable. He wasn't aware of what boundaries Mikey may or may not have, and didn't want to push it anymore than he already had that day.
"Not much. I was kinda preoccupied with thinking about something- um, someone, else," Mikey replied with a small, introverted smile. "But I did catch a little bit. I have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that Pastor Ryan very well be even gayer than the people he constantly reprimands. What a damn hypocrite!" Mikey says, actually laughing at the situation. Pete was taken aback by Mikey swearing, but he saw it as a good thing since it most likely meant he was finally loosening up.
"I hope it keeps up. I can totally get used to not going to so many of those worthless church services," Pete laughed along, gazing at Mikey, his beaming smile and flushed out cheeks making Pete swoon. He had never seen Mikey look so happy. He really could get used to all of this. Mikey began to speak again, but couldn't get three words out before Pete leaned in and kissed him gently, bringing his left hand up to Mikey's cheek and cupping it. Mikey smiled into the kiss, letting himself fall onto the mattress, Pete ending up on top of him as they continued kissing.
This feeling was completely foreign to Mikey. He had never really had any sort of relationship, never been in love. Being with Pete made him realize how much stuff he was missing out on in life. This school had been holding him back for years. He hadn't been experiencing the things other people his age were, at least not until he met Pete. Pete changed things for him. Mikey was finally beginning to realize that in these past 17 years, although he was alive every second, he had never lived. In this exact moment, he reached a glorious epiphany that would change everything. As his roommate, this wonderful creature that seemed to know all the right things to say, Peter Wentz, laid atop him, kissing him with all the romantic energy he could possibly muster up, Mikey realized that Pete was the best thing that had ever happened to him. He couldn't have felt any luckier than he did in that moment. He was falling in love, and he wasn't going to be afraid of it anymore.
Pete pulled away from the kiss, staying on top of Mikey by using his arms to prop himself up, looking the boy below directly in the eyes. He noticed Mikey seemed to be zoned out.
"Penny for your thoughts, Mikey?" Mikey looked up at Pete for a moment, trying to decide what part of his mind he should share with the boy.
"You're beautiful, Pete," Mikey spoke sincerely, keeping his gaze aligned with the other boy's.
"Says you," Pete smiled, planting a kiss on Mikey's temple. "I could stare at you forever,"
"Wanna bet?" Mikey smiled back, a small yawn slipping through his wet, post-kissing lips. Pete subsequently yawned as well, climbing off of Mikey and beginning to spoon him. Not much else was said, for there wasn't much else to say. They drifted off together, still wearing their uniforms. Serenity filled the air. They were the definition of happy.About three months had passed. Mikey and Pete were completely inseparable. Sitting together in sermons, walking each other to class, and just a general sense of needing to be together as often as possible. Whenever they were alone together, it felt like nothing else in the universe had any significance whatsoever. They were mutually obsessed with each other. And people were beginning to notice. Most people just assumed they were just close friends, partially due to Mikey's prominent reputation of being the most obedient at the school. However, there was one girl who's venomous eyes saw right through their bullshit.
Ashlee Simpson wasn't traditionally a snitch. She knew about all the teacher/student affairs, Brendon's contraband-ridden dorm parties, the hypocrisy of almost all of the staff, and everything else that could be considered a controversy. But she never said a word. One very important factor into becoming the one who knows everything is that you can't, under any circumstance, let people know you know anything. But she decided to let this be an exception. Why? Alicia, her best friend of many, many years, absolutely adored Mikey. She wanted nothing more than to be his wife, bear his children, and take his last name. Pete was getting in the way of her dreams. Fantasizing about her future with Mikey was the only thing that kept her alive at her darkest moments. Ashlee knew that the information she knew would literally kill Alicia. She quickly began formulating her plan to pry Mikey away from Pete. One thing had to happen first.
She needed to get blackmail. It was 3 hours past curfew when she snuck out of her dorm, her skin tight black clothing blending into the night. She vigilantly made her way to the nearby dorm, being extra cautious of the guards who patrolled the campus after hours. She successfully made it to the dorm, sneaking to the back door in an attempt to avoid the front door's censors. She pulled the universal key that she wasn't supposed to have from her pocket, opening the door and immediately heading to the stairwell, speedily tip toeing her way up to the designated floor. She used a flashlight to look at all the dorm numbers until she found what she was looking for, 708. She hesitated a moment, listening in to determine whether they were awake or not. She heard a soft snore come from one of the boy's and assumed it would be safe to enter.
Although she knew how to unlock the door, she didn't have to due to it being already unlocked. How foolish of them, doing the things they do and not even bothering to lock the door. She slowly opened the door, a small lamp barely illuminating the room. Then she saw it. There, just to the left of her, lay a shirtless Pete and Mikey, snuggled up to each other, Pete's head on Mikey, slightly drooling on his chest. Without any delay, Ashlee whipped out her polaroid camera and snapped a picture, immediately leaving the room and rushing back to her dorm as the image developed. The hard part was officially over.
Ashlee got back to her room, leaning up against her door and breathing heavily. She could hardly believe what she had just done. She looked over to her best friend Alicia, sleeping peacefully. This comforted Ashlee. She never understood how Alicia had that affect on her. She could calm Ashlee down with her mere presence. Everything Ashlee had done, all the laws she had broken and lines she had crossed, it was all for Alicia. Alicia's happiness was her top priority.
That night, she fell asleep with a smile on her face, knowing her Alicia would soon have the happiness she deserved.
