A/N: Alright, so, the short version is that Hunter ran away from the Emperor bc he tried to kill him after failing too many missions, and ended up at the Owl House. He eventually goes to Hexside, yada yada yada.

This is basically just Luz, Hooty, and Hunter bonding while Hunter is dealing with burnout and needs a distraction/outlet.

THIS IS ALL AN AU, IT IS NOT CANON TO THE ORIGINAL STORYLINE. I ALSO DO NOT OWN THE OWL HOUSE!

Hunter POV:

I... I can't. WHY CAN'T I DO THIS?! My hands rise to my hair, repetitively running my fingers through the dusty blonde locks. I've been sitting here for hours, and I haven't gotten ANYTHING done! My hands form into fists with hair still entangled within my grasp as I yank on it. I feel my scalp burn with pain as I continuously do this. My eyes start to well up with salty tears as I stress out over my assignment. The worst part was that this was an EASY assignment! It was just asking what ingredients make potions do certain things, so why can't I do this?? A tear runs down my face, followed by some pathetic sniffles.

"No wonder the emperor wanted to get rid of me, I really am useless." I mumble to myself.

I remove my hands from my hair to hug my knees, which were brought up to my face while my feet were sitting on the edge of my chair. I feel the fabric of my pants get wet as my tears drip onto my knees.

"...Hunter?" A voice says from the doorframe.

"What do you want, Human?" I say, my words muffled because I'm shoving my face into my patellas.

"Hooty heard crying from this room, and I wanted to make sure you were okay-" Luz says, interrupted by the said bird tube.

"HOOT! I got markers and tissues! Do you guys wanna draw on each other and ourselves, HOOT?!" Hooty exclaims, dropping a big box of Crawlola markers and tissues onto the wooden floors.

"Sure..." I say while wiping the remainder of my tears off my cheeks, then sliding off the chair, joining Hooty on the ground, followed by Luz.

I pull off the baggy yellow and blue sweater I'm wearing, revealing a black worn out t-shirt of some human band that Eda stole some years ago. Luz, seeing the scars on my arm, beckoned my over while grabbing green and black markers. I sit next to her as she uncaps the green marker and pulls my right arm towards her. I watch with interest as she draws a... T-rex, I think it's called, on my arm, using some of my scars as a guide. She covers the green marker, then uncaps the black one, adding details like eyes, stick-like arms, and spikes that ran down its head to the tip of its tail. The human smiles at her handiwork.

"Wow, HOOT! That's so cool, Luz!" Hooty says, admiring the drawing.

"Thanks Hooty!" Luz responds.

I pull out pink, yellow, brown, and black markers, and grabs Luz's forearm. I started with the yellow, drawing a medium sized circle. Then, I used the brown to draw the basic outline of the Human's strange hairstyle. I added on oval petal-like shapes around the things I drew. Finally, I used the black to add Luz's eyes, goofy smile, and other details. The human looks at the drawing with a blank, yet awestruck expression.

"Sorry if it's bad, I don't draw that much-"

"No, no, I love it!"

I awkwardly smile at the latina. Then, Hooty prods my shoulder.

"My turn, my turn!" He says hyperly as Luz and I chuckle at his behavior.

Luz draws some weird "S" thing onto Hooty, along with a few names in bubble letters with assorted colors, while I draw miscellaneous plants and mushrooms I've seen before or read about.

«-»

"Soooo... why were you crying, Hunter?" Luz inquired while drawing.

I pause on my 14th mushroom, before starting again.

"I... was struggling to do my homework," I admit, finishing the mushroom, and starting on random swirls and flowers on my arm, making sure to incorporate my scars into the drawing.

"I think what you're dealing with is burnout. It makes doing required things really difficult, and is a sign you've overworked yourself. Or, at least that's my experience with it." The human tells me. I nod to show I heard her.

"I like this, HOOT! Hanging out with you two, talking about our problems. It makes me feel important, and it seems to be helping our angsty teen here to calm down and be happier, HOOT!" Hooty states, making my ears flame up in embarrassment and a tint of pink brush my cheeks.

"No comment." I say as I grab a random marker and start drawing random shapes on my shin after pulling up the sweatpant leg.

"What assignment were you working on? Maybe I could help!" Luz offers.

"Just listing what potion ingredients do, nothing special." I mutter, annoyed at how simple it was.

The human crawls over and grabs the parchment and a pen, then returns.

"Hmmmm... what does Bogroot do?" She asks.

"Bogroot has multiple properties, all involving enhancing or strengthening your potion, mostly used in elemental potions." I recite from memory.

"Great, now write that in your own words!" Luz says, scooting the paper and pen towards me.

I take them and scribble down the answer. We did this back and forth until the homework was finished, of course taking a few brain breaks to draw on Hooty and have Hooty draw on us. Turns out, even though Hooty doesn't have hands, he's a good artist.

"Yay, you finished your homework, Hunter!" The human celebrated, waving her marker decorated arms around.

"Trevor!" Luz randomly shouts.

I turn to look at her in confusion.

"...what?"

"I named the dinosaur Trevor, after The Trevor Project, an LGBTQ+ youth suicide prevention thing in the human realm," Luz says, pointing to her first drawing.

"I know that doing really anything when having burnout is hard, but we're all here to help you. So, when you're struggling, you can rely on us," she continues, giving me a comforting grin.

"Same to you, Goof," I say, starting to laugh.

I grab my homework and put it in my schoolbag.

"Well, thanks. I'm gonna go get some food... wanna come?" I query, looking back at the two.

Hooty seemed to have sort of fallen asleep, and was somehow slithering out of the window, while Luz finished up a drawing on her forearm. It was a chibi version of that fictional girl she obsesses over, Azura.

"Why not, something to eat would be nice," Luz says, standing up and following me to the kitchen.

I sit on the worn red couch with the latina, eating some crackers while joking around at 10 pm. She curls up next to me, and I hug her in a familial way.

"Night, Dork," I mumble while resting my head on the cushioned sofa arm.

"Night, Doofus," she responds.

I could get used to this.

A/N: Not me reflecting my feelings of the past few days on fictional characters as escapism of the fucked up real world! No, definitely not 🙄

Anyways, the dino drawing was inspired by my friend.

Have a fun existence, byeeeee!
