a/n : it is really hard to choose my favourite picture of Harry. Just sayin'.
{ Seeing Stars - BØRNS }
"HARRY!" Louis yelled. He was sitting next to me at the high table in the middle of Eleanor's lab. I put my hands over my ears to try and block out the ringing that was caused by his sudden outburst. I turned to him, gave him the finger, and quickly placed my hands back over my ears.
"Christ, mate," Harry came out from behind a curtain ln the other side of the room. "No need to shout. I'm right here."
He pulled up a bar stool and sat down across from us at the table. Laid out on the surface of the table was a large map of the continental United States, each state marked decoratively with a different colour. The dull white space above North Dakota resembled Canada. There was a blue push-pin piercing the paper and lodging itself deep within the wood of the table.
"This is where we are," Louis said, pointing to the pin. He reached to his right and grabbed a red pin out of their plastic container. He twirled it between his fingers for a few seconds before he pushed it into the map till it was stuck. It marked a little town north of Salt Lake City, right off the interstate.
"That was where we were. They will most likely find the house, search it, and find nothing there. We will need to have major repair crews come in to re-model the house– again– because they will no doubt demolish the place. They are ruthless and will stop at nothing to get what they want. They will kill."
His words reminded me of what Harry had told me at the house right before we left. They will kill you to get what they want. Hearing somebody else say it just confirmed what I hadn't believed before. They were dangerous people. I knew my mom had been able to handle them, I just hoped I can as well as she could. I don't know if I'm willing to put those I love in danger for a mission she had failed to accomplish all those years ago.
I just got Harry back. I don't want to loose him again.
"This," Harry slammed another pin into the map. The sudden noise caused my focus to zero in on the problem at hand. "is where we found out that Bruce and Jane were two-timing, double-crossing, sons-of-bitches. They still are, to be precise."
The pin was green and was situated in northern California, almost to where the sunny state ends and Oregon begins.
"Now Harp," Harry handed a pink pin to me. I took it from his fingers, careful not to prick myself on the pointed metal tip. "Tell us where that deck of cards are."
My eyes roamed the map until I found the area I was looking for. Jacob had bought our apartment in the middle of the desert, in Palm Springs, forty minutes from the heart of the city of angels. He and I both commuted daily, me drving into LA for school, him for work at the office. When we bought the apartment, it had been brand new, completely furnished and we bought it for the lowest price on the market. The amount we saved monthly was enough to cover the cost of gas for our daily road trips.
"Palm Springs," I said, pushing the pink pin into the map harshly. "We have an apartment out there. Far from the city, I know, but it peaceful. Plus, all the music festivals are within walking distance from our building."
"Do you know exactly where the cards are?"
"Yes."
"So..."
I went back amd forth in my head, debating whether or not I should tell them. I had hid them well, making them hard to find for a reason. "I know exactly where they are. But there is now way Bruce and his girlfriend – what did you call her, Jane? – would find them. I've hidden it well. There's no need for us to go get them."
