Remus' POV
September 1st, 1976
The train was breathtaking every time he saw it. Remus was always amazed how the whole situation. Waking through platform 9 and 3/4 to get to the hogwarts express was such a beautiful experience.The boys entered the train together, James and Peter's parents going to drop them off. Remus had already said goodbye to his parents the day before. And Sirius promptly walked past his parents with the intention of ignoring them but his mother snapped at him to come see him.
Remus tried not to look over, he noticed their friends doing the same thing. But the boys failed and ended up watching the interaction.
Sirius looked very upset and his mother was grabbing his arm tightly. Before Remus could decide to go over there James went and put an arm around sirius, pushing Walburga Black off. Sirius grinned when he saw James and they walked back to him and Peter.
"Ready boys?" James motioned to the train. The group nodded and said their farewells to the parents.
The train car was the same as always. Soft seats and enough room for their carryon luggage. Remus slipped his bag that had some money and his robes, along with a book for the ride, onto the storage rack.
However his friends had other ideas. As soon as Peter closed the doors behind them james called his hands. With a lazy wave of his wand all the rest of the luggage up. Remus rolled his eyes at him.
"Okay gentlemen, the full moon is in 7 days." Remus flinched at how close it was. He was on edge still, the last full moon had been particularly difficult. He had scars all over him from the change and he felt the itch that came with anticipation of the next. "We are incredibly close to cracking our transformation into animagus. We have studied hard and I know this our year."
"The last step." Sirius continued for James. "Is getting the crucial plant we need for this transformation. I believe i know who we should talk to." Sirius smiled, and Remus' heart pounded. That was the smile that made the entire school go wild.
Remus swallowed. "Well go ahead mate, don't leave us hanging."
"Professor McGonagall."
Peter squeaked in shock and panic. His blue eyes grew wide with fear.
"Are you mad?" Remus demanded. Out of all their professors Sirius wanted to talk to her about this.
Even James seemed worried.
"Would you rather go straight to Dumbledore?" Sirius looked thoughtful. "I'm sure we could get it out of him. He would know too."
"Sirius," James started slowly, " you do realize it we do this it would be done illegally right? McGonagall and Dumbledore would be obligated to turn us in."
"It's worth the risk, James. It's to help Remus."
Remus couldn't understand how he felt. Warm over the idea that Sirius was willing to risk anything for him, or was it guilt? Possibly both.
"I'm not worth it sirius. " that made all three of the boys stare. Peter said nothing as James and Sirius shot back "yes you are."
"We will word it carefully, I swear. Make it sound like a hypothetical question or that we have a homework assignment. Plus what's life without a little risk?"
It was hard to argue with him. Especially after James nodded in agreement.
When they made up their minds there was no changing it. So Remus didn't argue.
"Fine, but if things go badly you're all going to stop this. Deal?"
"Deal." The other boys said. Peter looked as if he wanted to stop this all anyway, but he wouldn't argue against them.
Their conversation changed to a happier topic. Or at least a more entertaining one. James' love life. Or lack there of.
"Come on James, she turned you down already." Peter mumbled.
"Actually she just looked at him after he failed to actually ask her out." Sirius laughed.
"You two suck." James groaned. He fancied Lily Evans badly, had since he met her when they all met during first year.
"The issue with her is she has terrible taste in best friends." Sirius smiled.
"Guess we have that in common." James teased. And ducked when Sirius threw a box of chocolates at him. It hit Remus instead. "Only joking . I would never compare you to him."
"Good." Sirius turned to Remus who was now eating the chocolate. "Are you alright lupin?"
Remus had been enjoying the others talking, and now he blushed a bit.
"Grand." He gave a small smile.
Sirius raised a brow and came over to sit next to him.
He vaguely felt James leave the seat next to him and go talk to peter.
"Are you sure? You seem on edge." Genuine concern laced his voice. His Grey eyes shadowed with worry.
"I'm sure. Are you sure you're not projecting?" It was Remus' turn to raise a brow. Sirius seemed a little jumpy since running into his mom.
He kept grabbing his arm where she had gripped it.
"Not at all." Sirius tried to smile but ended up frowning.For a minute he didn't say anything, then Remus jumped up and grabbed the book from his bag.
"Look at this, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle." Sirius brightened at that and the boys read to each other until the train stopped at Hogsmead.
Quickly they changed into their robes and stepped out to their next year at hogwarts.
~~~
Sirius had gone mad. He was sure of it. He kept staring at the carriages."Sirius are you alright?" Peter asked. Remus was getting worried.
But Sirius just smiled and nodded. He wasn't convinced but had other things to worry about when Severus glared at him. Especially at the shiny prefect pin Remus had on his robes.
The boys snickered at that.
"To Remus, the new gryffindor Prefect!" James cheered.
"To remus!" The other two yelled. Quiet loudly.
Remus smiled sheepishly. "Thank you. I still don't know why they chose me."
"Because you're an excellent student." Peter said kindly.
Remus was happy to have his friends. Especially when the hollered and were overly too loud while talking about him being prefect.
"And to James for being quidditch captain!"
"To James!"
"Are you trying out this year Sirius?" James asked. He looked very serious.
"Still not sure. I brought my broom just in case." Remus had seen him on a broom.
He was sure gryffindor would win the house cup with both James and Sirius working on the same team.
"You should." Remus said, rubbing his hands together to keep warm. It was a dreadfully cold night.
"Okay, are you trying out Remus?" He inquired. Remus made a face. He could appreciate it from afar but quidditch had never been his thing.
"Hell no. I'll leave the sports to you two. What about you Pete, going to try out?"
Peter shook his head almost violently. Peter was not a very outgoing person, and he looked like he would rather jump out of the carriage then try out for the team.
With how serous James was about the sport, Remus couldn't blame him.
They talked until the got to the castle. They looked up in amazement, like they did every time. It was beautiful, and a sense of peace wormed it's way through Remus.
He was home, even the whomping Willow that pounded near by made him whole. Everything was perfect. It set the mood for the year to come.
