To refrain from speaking to her husband that night, Stevie hurried upstairs right after the kids were out the door and she was off the phone with Lindsey.

She didn't want to go through that whole bedtime routine thing again... you know, the one where they talk about their day and tell each other how much they love one another right before their eyes grow heavy and they drift into a peaceful sleep.

She was already bored of that.

It was probably terrible to admit, but she knew that life wasn't for her.  It was too mundane- too every day was the same as the last and her life hadn't been like that in many years, not even when she was married for that short couple of months.

She had never truly settled down and to think that if life would have just been even slightly different...if time hadn't formed so precisely, this is who she could have been.

It was weird, and even a little intimidating.

So instead of waiting around for him, she quickly readied herself for bed and then slipped under the covers, turned out her side table lamp and closed her eyes, hoping she'd fall asleep before he got upstairs.

~~~
It was the sound of the alarm clock that caused her to jump up, a deep gasp escaping her as she clutched the cream colored bedsheet to her chest.
"Oh my gosh." Her heart was pounding as she quickly leaned over David, who was just beginning to stir. "Shh," she sighed, hitting the button to shut it off.
It was half past five and the only sound, besides her husbands heavy breathing, was the night birds chirping out the window.
"Sleep well?" He mumbled, eyes still closed as his head stayed plastered to the pillow.
She stared down at him for a moment, this softness washing over her that she wasn't sure she understood. "Mhmm," she nodded her head lightly as she ran her fingers through his hair... She did love him- she could feel it. "Did you sleep okay?" She wondered as she watched his long eyelashes flutter softly.
He cracked a little smile, nodding his head as he finally glanced up at her. "You're going to put me back to sleep, Steph." David slipped his hand around her legs, pulling her in a little bit closer.
Biting down on her lower lip, she paused for a long moment before she said anything. "Don't you have to get up?" She wasn't trying to sound annoyed, or bothered... She actually kind of liked it.
He pushed himself up just far enough to kiss her arm, which made her heart melt instantly. "I have a meeting this morning." He announced as he felt his wife sink down further. "You should probably go in today..." his eyes grew gentle, seeing as that look ran across her face- she didn't want to go. "Everyone really misses you, especially Katie." He said that like she was supposed to know who that was, and she was, but she didn't.
"I just wanna stay in bed all day." She admitted as she casually raised an eyebrow. "You can stay, too..." she couldn't believe that she'd actually said that- it came out of no where.
He laughed softly, letting her go as he rolled over to lay on his back. "I think we should just go to work." The way he said that didn't set well with Stevie, not in the slightest. "Since you got a cab home last night, I guess you and Darby have to ride with me this morning." He pushed himself out of bed, running his fingers through his hair as he turned back around to look at her.
