When I was little, me and my sister Beth loved to play princess and knights. I would always be the knight and she would be the princess, I would save her and bring her to the castle where we lived happily ever after. I wish it was like that with life. Although now I know there is no happily ever afters in this life. No matter how stunning, amazing or beautiful something is, the world will always find a way to ruin it. For example, as a child, I loved Marvel. I wished I had a super power like Spider-Man and Hulk and I would imagine they were actually my best friends and told the kids at school that spider man was having a party on the weekend and that I would be invited because I was his best friend in the world. I didn't have any real friends though. I was the weird kid. I always wished I had stuff. But something I have learned is that when you wish for something, wish carefully. Otherwise you might end up on the other side of the universe fighting an intergalactic space god. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
Hi. My name is Mark. And I have travelled outside of our multiverse. To start off the story, let's go back to the beginning. I was born in Cornwall in England. My mom Rachael and my dad Xavier had moved there to raise me because it was their childhood homes. If you have never been to Cornwall and you live in the UK, I totally recommend it. Anyway, I was an only child until I was eight years old and my sister Bethany was born. Unlike a lot of other siblings, we always got along. ALWAYS. We only fought every now and again over something stupid like if Cheerios are better than Weetabix (those are two cereals by the way) and even then we would just have a civilised argument about it. Bethany was a REALLY intelligent kid. She was reading Shakespeare at the age of five. And understood it! After Beth was born, my Mum left us and her and my dad got a divorce. It was really sad, and all I could think about for ages, but my dad was with us every step of the way. He helped us and even tried getting back together with mom. Then she died. Since she had left, we weren't too sad about it because we were never gonna see her anyway, but it still broke me and Beth's heart. Once again though, my amazing dad stood by us. It's a shame he couldn't see me now. He would be proud I think.
Anyway, enough of the sad crap, let's get on with the story. So basically, I was 14 years old and Beth was about 6. I never went through angsts teenage years for some reason, I was just always childish and fun. I think it was because of how positive my dad was. So I was in my room, on the phone to one of my "friends".
Like I said, I didn't have any friends but this person (Dave) just like to talk to me sometimes. I wouldn't say we were friends, but we hung out sometimes and I'd say we're just on the line of it. So I was on the phone to Dave and we were just chatting about school when Beth burst in, holding her head and looking wide eyed and shocked staring at her iPad.
"OH MY GOSH, OH MY GOSH. MARK COME CHECK THIS!" She yelled.
Like I said, we got along, so being a good brother, I went to see what she was on about.
"Hold on a sec Dave," I said into the phone.
"Ooooo, who's Dave, your boyfriend!" She mocked playfully.
"Oh shut up, what were you going to show me anyway?"
When I said shut up, I meant it in a friendly way. And she knew the difference between friendly and genuine. My dad on the other hand...
"Mark. I heard you speaking in a mean way to your sister, be NICE please." My dad said, slamming the door open. He tried to act like the mean parent but it didn't fit him. I couldn't be scared at him so I just chuckled and told him that i was joking. Him being the best, he understood.
"What are you guys talking about anyway?" He Asked noisily.
"I'll tell you once I hang up on Dave." I told him.
"Who's Dave? Your boyfriend?" He Said, high fiving Beth.
"Already used that joke dad." I said, hanging up the phone.
"Dammit. So what are you guys doing?" He Asked again.
"Beth was gonna say something that I "really need to check out". I don't know what it is though." I said.
"Well basically, I saw this news article about these fishermen, who went on a boat, and they disappeared! I bet they DIED! How cool is that!" Said Beth.
"First of all, no death talk. Second of all, death is not good. And third, HELL YEAH THATS COOL! You think they got eaten by the kraken. Or maybe... a TICKLE SEA MONSTER." Said dad, tickling Beth, and making nom nom sounds with his mouth. Beth laughed and I said I would save her, I jumped in the pile and instantly felt like I was being tickled to death. It was hilarious, and it's moments like that when I realise how lucky I am to have a great dad. Or, how lucky I was.
"No but seriously, the reward is 50,000 pounds to find the boat or one of the bodies! That's a big amount of money daddy!" Said Beth excitedly after the tickling stopped.
"Oh no no we can't be out looking for dead bodies, especially not with you two kids!" Said dad.
"So no money?" Said Beth sadly.
"I'm sorry Bethy. No money. But we can still earn money in other ways! Daddy has a great job and gets money there! We will be fine! Alright I have to finish the washing. Bye my little monkeys."
With that, he shut the door behind him.
"Well that's a shame. Right Mark?" Beth Said.
I didn't reply.
"Mark?" She said turning around.
"Yeah totally it's so cool! A lot of money! So this Friday? Cool. Alright bye!" I was saying on the phone.
"Oh boy. Don't tell me you are gonna try and get those bodies." Said Beth.
"If I did, would you snitch?" I asked.
"Hmmmmmm. Nope." She Said.
"Great"
"BUT ONLY IF" she said.
"Oh brother, what."
"You take ME with you!"
"Ugh... it's dangerous though! I refuse!"
"DAAAAAAADDYYYYY" she screamed downstairs.
"ALRIGHT ALRIGHT ONLY IF YOU'LL SHUT UP!"
"That's what I thought."And finally it was decided. My intelligent six year old sister was coming with me on a trip to find the dead bodies of fishermen, killed by and unknown force at sea. What could go wrong right!
[Hey! I'd like to say a shoutout to Billerrorsans for adding my book to one of his reading lists. I really hope he likes it and that you like it! I'm aspiring to be a proper author soon so this is a great start for me! Thanks! New chapter soooooon!]
