After the horrific events of the day, Vi, Leif, and Kabbu were sitting in their house, not really saying anything.
Vi decided to break the silence.
"So...do we have any idea what that thing could be? The thing that destroyed The Golden Settlement?"
"Nope," Leif said flatly.
"Could it have been the wasps?" Vi wondered aloud. "Maybe they have some new beef with us that we don't know about."
"I don't think it's the wasps," Kabbu said. "When they attacked the Ant Kingdom, the damage wasn't even half as bad as what happened to The Golden Settlement."
"Maybe they got upgrades," Vi suggested. "It's been five months; that's a lot of time to think about new weapons and stuff."
"As bad as they were, I don't think they would ever do something this harsh. The Golden Settlement is completely leveled. I think it must've been a natural disaster, or a big monster or something. No sentient being is that evil. Aria was ripped in half!"
"There's bad people out there," said Leif. "Look at what they did to me." Leif raised a hand and summoned a huge piece of ice that crashed onto the floor.
"They gave you badass powers?" Vi asked.
"Well, yeah. But they did other stuff too. Not fun stuff."
"Right."
"Team, we can't just sit here and wait for answers," Kabbu suddenly blurted. "We have to go find who did this."
"Are you crazy? Have you seen the golden settlement?! The thing that did that is way stronger than us," said Vi.
"You know it's serious when Vi's admitting we're weak," Lief quipped.
"Hey!" Vi shouted, flapping her arms up and down. "I'm not saying we're weak! I'm saying we're weaker than that...thing!"
"Even if we are weaker than the—"
"We're definitely weaker," Leif interrupted.
"Okay, I get it! Stop interrupting me," said Kabbu. "Let's just...go back to the golden settlement and look around."
...
Vi, Leif, and Kabbu jumped out of the tunnel. They took a long look around. The Golden Settlement looked the same as earlier, except all the fires had gone out and now there were ants retrieving bodies from the rubble.
"Where do we look?" Vi asked.
"Let's get out of town. Maybe we should look in the wild," Kabbu said.
"Yeah, it's probably out there somewhere," said Vi.
When they exited the town, the saw a large group of ants where the pop-up-shop usually went.
"What's this?" Kabbu asked.
A tall and turned and looked at Kabbu. "Ah, Team Snakemouth. Good to see you here. We're throwing around some ideas. We were thinking about going into the rough to look for the beast."
"We were about to do the same thing," Vi said.
"Oh!" exclaimed the tall ant. "That's perfect! We'll be awaiting your report!" The tall ant went back to talking.
Vi looked at Kabbu. "Uh, I guess we're going now."
Kabbu nodded and they headed to the gate.
...
"I'm surprised we haven't seen anything yet," said Lief. "We've been looking for like, thirty minutes. I feel like if there's really a beast somewhere, we would have seen it by now."
