Gonna Be Fine - Watanabe Haruto

Chapter 10

"Oh my god! What's going on?!" I asked as I frantically rushed into the class to see Haruto being slammed into the lockers by our teacher.

"Sir! You're hurting him! " I said as I positioned myself between Haruto and our teacher.

"You all knew!!! You all knew! You bloody Rascals!" She said slamming his fist into a desk, making Haruto's hand grasp for mine.

"Now listen. From this point on, there's no Haruto." He said fuming while walking to the front of the class.
"Hear me straight. All of you." He said , his voice practically shaking with anger. " From this point, there is no Haruto. "

"But sir..." Jihoon said raising his hand.
Ignoring him, our teacher continued. "Kim Doyoung! Take his desk outside" He took a deep breath. "Whoever talks to him or says his name, report them to me." He said.

I tightened the grip on Haruto's hand.

"I'll give penalty for not being obedient. Get it?" He ended as he stormed off the class.

All eyes were on Haruto as I felt his cold hands shaking under my tight grasp.

" Haruto, let's go." Jaehyuk said.

" YOON JAEHYUK! IF YOU LEAVE NOW, IM REPORTING YOU TO THE TEACHER!" Doyoung yelled.

Jaehyuk pulled Haruto by the arm anyways as Doyoung reminded him, "You know what happens when you get detention in class 12... Especially for a top student like you"

Jaehyuk bit his lip to hold back tears as he let go of the hand he was holding. Haruto's grip on my hand fell loose.

He walked past us.

"Haruto!" I whispered.

He didn't turn back. He just left. For the entire day I didn't see him. He just... Left.

I saw him staring helplessly at his classmates, hoping they'd finally acknowledge his presence.

For some, it was hard. I saw Jaehyuk cry at the end of the bleachers during break. There's nothing he could do now that he couldn't reach out to Haruto.

Without him being the top student, his family would suffer deeply. He had no choice. He must be feeling so helpless.

Junkyu, Jihoon and Jeongwoo had been the most silent I had ever seen them be.

But Haruto had been secretly finding ways to apologise to Junghwan, Yedam and Mashiho. He helped them out in small ways which made it hard for them too.

Yoshi felt deeply guilty for being against Haruto and Asahi's anger against the teacher was showing in his sketches.

Our entire class was in distress. Falling apart. Silent. Broken.
Because of one warning from our teacher.

He wouldn't talk to me not matter how much I'd try. He wrote a letter in his shabby handwriting instead.

Dear Haneul,
I'm fading. I don't know what's happening to me. I just wanted you to know before I faded away completely, I love you. From the moment the teacher introduced you, to every moment you were with me. I won't be able to write long because the pen keeps slipping through my hands. Live a good life. I'll always love you.

The letter took me by surprise as I ran straight to where I'd find him. At the rooftop.

He wasn't there.

I ran all the way downstairs to the garden. I happened to encounter his father on the way. "Ahjussi, do you know where Haruto is?"

"I haven't seen him... I'm worried for him too." His father said.

I ran straight past him. I asked everyone in sight where Haruto was.

"Jaehyuk!!! Where is Haruto?!"
🦁"I don't know..."

"Junkyu!!! Where is Haruto?!"
🐨"I don't know..."

"Jihoon!!! Where is Haruto?!"
🐶"I don't know..."

"Jeongwoo!!! Where is Haruto?!"
🐺"I don't know..."

"Mashiho!!! Where is Haruto?!"
🍀"I don't know..."

"Asahi!!! Where is Haruto?!"
🤖"I don't know..."

"Yoshi!!! Where is Haruto?!"
🐯"I don't know..."

" Yedam!!! Where is Haruto?!"
🦊"I don't know..."

" Doyoung!!! Where is Haruto?!"
🐰"Haneul... you're not..."

" HYUNSUK!!! Where is Haruto?!"

" He faded away."

" What do you mean he faded away?" I screamed at the top of my lungs.

" Shh... The teacher might hear you." Junghwan said.

Tears filled my eyes as I kept asking them where my Haruto was.
" He faded Haneul." Junghwan said.

" What do you mean he faded?" I sobbed." How do you know?"

" We saw him. He was fading in the bathroom. And then later he faded away completely."

" Why didn't you stop him? Is that how mean you guys are? Is that all his friendship meant to you?" I sobbed. " Why didn't you stop him?" I asked again as I sobbed .
" We're sorry Haneul." Junghwan and Hyunsuk said together.

" I hate you! I hate all of you! "I said running past them.

" You made it hell for him on earth!"

" Haneul!!! Where are you going?" Hyunsuk asked as him and Junghwan ran after me.

" To bring him back!!! Yoshi must know something!" I said, increasing my pace.
