sora felt drained, drowsy and was ready to explore the dreamland at the moment but she was hungry.
while the man was dressing the bandage on her wrist, her stomach came to betray her by making a rumbling sound. it was truly embarrassing and she swore she felt her cheeks heat up a bit.
"i ordered pizza, it'll be here so—" they heard the front door being closed. she looked up at him questionably but he paid no mind to it.
"pizza's here." he stated blankly while starting to put back the first aid kits in their place.
soft humming could be heard from outside of the room. wait... did the delivery man enter someone else's house without any permission? seriously what—
double knock on the door before it finally opened. "your pizza is here, sire! oh, hi there!"
jay with a cap on and both hands occupied with some plastics and paper bags was revealed behind the door, letting himself inside the room uninvited. "jay, you're late. come on, i'm hungry."
his voice turned a bit softer from his usual one. therefore, she could have sworn it was stomach-churning and heart-stirring. his eyes leave a quick glance on her before he moved to carry all the food probably to the kitchen leaving jay there.
"sora, come on! jakey's hungry tho, you better hurry— oh shit— can you walk tho?" his expression shifted once he realized what condition that girl was in.
jay let out a sigh and took a stride towards the girl, slightly bending himself in front of her and taking her wrist. "listen sora, listen. all you gotta do is listen. you're lucky jake only did these to you after shits i heard." he heaved out and finally look at her dejected expression.
"i... it just... uhm officer park, c—can i get a hug?"
sora asked hesitantly with her hoarse voice and to be honest he missed that man. jay is the only place for her to turn to after all the episodes she went through that made her end up being in his office. the girl got caught by him a lot of times already.
because that man never pushes her away.
at the end of the day, jay will be the one who would welcome her. maybe not with open arms but with those eyes. those accepting eyes that could make her feel at least worth being on this earth.
"alright, come here. damn, you miss me huh? and i've told you to call me jay, we're not in my office." he sat beside her and tucked her head inside his embrace, accompanied by some light caresses on her hair. of course, it is not jay if not with his teasing remark.
"oh, shut up." her eyes rolled in a playful manner, generating small laughs from both sides.
"you can trust him, sora. this world is cruel, i know and it won't do good for you unless you're being an angel or some sort of hero. at least he could do good for you even you're being a villain. it sounds nonsense, i know... but it's just him."
"i almost took your friend's life earlier..."
"oh, you did?"
sora nodded meekly then he heard the man let out a small chuckle. jay looks like he doesn't care at all about the statement and at this rate, she's tired to think about how the murderous acts that she tried to pull looks like it has nothing to do with them at all.
rather than being scared, the man was being amused.
"it took a lot to even make him feel pain and you're thinking of killing him? ah, that's cute! ten marks for effort!"
his laughter resonated in the room, not too loud but not too quiet. enough for both of them to hear. sora would want to ask how and why about his words but then jay continued again.
"if you think you've been through shits, i could say his shits are worst. because it seems like people he cares about love to die in front of him."
"he's just always been that way ever since... those people he cares about are the people i care about too. you see, he's been doing well because he's used to it. if it was me, i think i won't become how i am today."
"thanks to him that i grew out of my grieving phase. it was hard for me but it was harder for him."
"that kid loves us, us as in me and our friends. i've witnessed things he did for us so yeah. if we are those types of cringe friendship goals, i'd say i love that kid too."
jay laughed again after his small confession and finally end them, "you see that? kim sora being my little counsellor? okay, let's go eat."
after the small talks between them, jay helped her to walk to the kitchen seeing the food already served on the table. jake was already on one of the stools, savouring the pizza with his blank face.
oh.
"i'll get going, i'll text you soon. jake, i have wine in store with two glasses."
jake nodded to his words without even batting an eyelash. but jay paid no mind to the lack of response and proceeded to talk again.
"ah yes, i guess i'll see you tomorrow sora. bye!" the officer left after bidding them goodbye and the atmosphere went back silent.
