it was hell. it was hell for jake to snap his friend out of the threads of miseries. he had to try every means possible to make him see the hope— them; the six people waiting for him. years, it took years for him— for them to open sunghoon's eyes to the bright world.

jake almost lost himself in the process but he made it in the end.

for them.

"i need space," he murmured, his gaze still fixed far ahead. he was sitting alone on the bench of the hospital's garden, staring into nothingness. he didn't even have to turn his head to his side to know that it was jake who took a seat beside him, he just knew it.

instinctively.

"you won't—"

"i won't do that again. i've promised, didn't i? i need to be here, anyway. for you, for jay and the others... just, please leave."

years passed, and sunghoon had never come to this place anymore. he had avoided this place for so long, but tonight, jake didn't know what had struck his friend that he had the courage to be... here again.

"it's today..." jake slowly spoke when he just realized the date.

"hm. i'll leave soon. jake, go home."

this hospital, this garden was the last place sunghoon would be. he had promised himself never to come back ever again, but his feet led him here tonight.

if jay was scared of sunghoon's newfound courage, jake was terrified. losing another person in his life was just... fuck, he didn't want to think about that.

jake didn't want to admit that he was scared of losing someone. he had already lost so much, and he couldn't bear the thought of it happening again.

jake, go home. oh, okay. that was the cue for jake to leave.

"sora, jake will be home soon. i'll go first, okay?" jay left without even sparing a glance. ah, something must have come up.

she had done washing up and was debating within herself whether to wait for jake or just go to sleep. sora found herself sitting on the couch, okay, it was the first option.

she couldn't remember when was the last time she marvelled at the sky. weeks of being here, she lost track of time. oh, weeks already? she sighed and looked out the window. oh, the stars were twinkling, and she felt relaxed.

pretty. maybe when she was six? or was it seven? she would find herself counting the stars but shit would never end. oh, at least she had some memorable memories in store.

"go to bed, sora." oh. she didn't even realize when did jake come home but here he was, sitting on the kitchen stool, eyes focusing on the glass in front of him. the girl had been so lost in her own thoughts that she hadn't even heard the sound of his key as he opened the door.

"not tired. you—" the girl made her way to sit on the opposite side, eyes hesitating to look at him. "—are tired."

jake only scoffed and he suddenly sat straight, his expression changed into somewhat... a concerned one? "i have something to tell."

oh, that was new coming from him.

"your old man, kim, had asked for you. you do realize that this month is about to pass in a week, don't you?"

"so? what's about it? i'll be here for months—"

"a month. i'm assigned to you for a month. congrats, you'll be set free from me."

silence. lol, wasn't this what he wanted from the start? to be away from this man in front of him. great, she would be able to do her every day, the same as before. but oh, her heart felt damn heavy to do so.

"he had asked your driver to fetch you tomorrow evening. so, pack up and sleep. now." with that, the man left the room.

shit, she felt heavy on her chest, and a wave of dread washed over her. meeting his father— that old man would be the last thing on her list or better, off her list.

meeting his father was not something she had been looking forward to.

so, she began packing. well, there wasn't much to pack anyway.

tomorrow came faster than she expected. there wasn't even a knock at her door with a 'breakfast'. she had been waiting and waiting, jake should've woken up by now.

"sora, out." ah, there was it. three minutes later than usual.

"where are we going today?" sora asked while taking her seat, spooning the scrambled egg into her mouth. the question hung in the air, with anticipation written across her face.

"listen. your old man and lady, kim and his wife, i'm ordered to get rid of them. today, at five." jake looked up from his plate, and the girl paused on her track, trying to process the information.

oh. oh.

sora slowly looked up to lock their eyes. it took a moment before jake raised his eyebrows, displaying a small smile while shaking his head in amusement. a slow 'sweet' was huffed out under his breath.

why? her eyes were glinting with excitement and mischief at his announcement. oh, that made his day already. what a great start for the day.

"wanna join, darling?"
