Nothingness

There was nothing to do.

Keith lay on his back, looking at the top of his bunk doing nothing, as Keith had no roommate to talk to, nor did he own anything which would entertain his mind from pure boredom.

"That's not completely true," Keith thought to himself. "Even if you did have a roommate, they wouldn't want to talk to you. You've also got your PDA. And there are games on the PDA."

Keith frowned as he thought of playing any of those games—all of which served educational purposes and were already played out when it came to entertainment value, yet that felt like an apt punishment for completely losing it in the locker room.

"I know losing my temper like that was wrong, that I can't be losing my temper like that. It is wrong despite what Shiro and Commander Iverson say."

Keith sat up, reaching for his PDA, pushing the power button; the thought of how he knew his behavior was wrong cemented in his head. And indeed, the other kids knew just as well he should have been punished for losing his temper. Yet, there was nothing, absolutely no mention of that day's incident in the forum threads.

Instead, the popular forum heading was, "TRANSFER STUDENT ALERT!!!" which in turn drew Keith's into clicking on the thread, a voice in his head wondering if the other cadets were talking about how they hoped he would transfer out of the program. Hence, they no longer had to deal with him and his temper.

What greeted him were the opening words, "WERE GETTING A TRANSFER STUDENT FROM ANOTHER GARRISON."

"It's 'we're,' and did you have to write that in all caps?" someone asked.

"I wrote it in all caps because it's exciting. And you dont have to correct me on my grammar in the forums."

"It also doesn't take that long to punctuate your contractions either properly, of which you're being inconsistent. Plus, where'd you get this idea that we're getting a transfer student?"

"I overheard one of the props talking about it," the original poster wrote, the word props being slang for the teachers, whether they be prophessors or soldiers at the garrison.

"Oh? And what else did you hear about this transfer student?" a third person asked.

The original poster then went into how they overheard the props in question talking about how said student was transferring in with top-notch grades. "So, you know what that means, right?"

"No, we don't." The first wrote.

"It means someone will finally give Keith Kogane a run for his money, and he might actually be dethroned at the piloting simulator."

"Woah. Hold on," the third person wrote. "You didn't say anything about the new transfer being the same year as us."

"They are! And it serves Keith right, being a teacher's pet who gets specialized treatment as he does. Take today, for example, where the other student got punished, and Keith didn't."

"Are you trying to get your thread shut down? The props have already closed down two threads which have discussed what happened today, so could we just not talk about that?" the second person wrote.

"Yeah. I want to hear more about the new transfer student, but I'm glad someone else might end up being Shiro's favorite," the third wrote.

Keith's eyes blinked as he thought about what the one commenter wrote. "I won't be Shiro's favorite? That's a good thing, right? I won't have to worry about disappointing him anymore or sticking with it. And..."
