01. girls have been raised to walk through the fire

____________

THE AIR was cold in the motel room. The smell of cigarette smoke still lingered in the air, from what she assumed, the last guest. Foster glanced up into the mirror and brought the damp rag to her face, ignoring the sympathetic expression from her older brother.

"You should've let me handle it," he said, watching as she wiped the blood from her mouth and chin. Foster shook her head.

"I'm okay." She felt the tears threatening to fall, but managed to keep them in. "It's nothing I can't handle, Stefan."

Stefan reached out to comfort her, but Foster waved him off and continued cleaning the blood off of her. She winced at the hurt that crosses over his face

"I'm sorry. I just can't right now," she muttered. Stefan offered her a small smile which she didn't even try to return before he walked out of the room.

Once Stefan was out of the room, Foster stared back at her reflection, jumping back the veins that appears before she swallowed the bloodlust and went back to cleaning her face once more.

Klaus had finally given in to taking a pit stop after the three gained information on an alpha werewolf from a rogue omega, who Klaus had Foster kill, claiming that they don't need loose ends. She stepped forward, of course. Stefan had tried to take her place and kill the man, but Klaus refused and insisted it was Foster who had done it. Though it's not as if she put up much of a fight. Her bloodlust has overcome its peak and soon, she found herself craving anything with a heartbeat.

Whenever Stefan became the ripper, he lost certain emotions, but with Foster, it was almost like the blood heightened it all―guilt being the first and foremost. It fueled her even more.

"Foster, time to go!" She heard Klaus call as she wiped away the tears she didn't even know fell. Quickly changing, Foster walked out of the bathroom and was met with a blank faced Stefan and a grinning Klaus.

"Are we leaving now or not?" she asked, not letting any emotion seep into her voice.

Klaus' grin fell to a smirk. "Don't look so glum, love. All that blood, you know you love it."

Foster kept her glare on him even as he walked out. "I hate him," she deadpanned.

Stefan nodded. "Everyone does."

"You go ahead. I'll be out in a minute." Stefan grabbed his bag and shut the door, allowing Foster to let out the breath she was holding. She reached into the small compartment in her bag and pulled out an old burner phone, dialing a familiar number.

___________

Foster watched as a young woman walked out of her Tennessee home, unknowingly right into the trap an original hybrid set for her.

"Rudy!" The woman yelled before whistling. "Rudy! Come on. It's too hot to make me come looking for you."

She bent down and picked up one of her pet's toys. When she turned around, she jumped at the sight of Klaus behind her.

"I'm so sorry," he started in an awfully fake American accent. "I didn't mean to scare you."

"Can I help you?" the girl asked sharply.

"Yeah, my, uh, my car ran out of gas a couple miles back. I feel like I've been walking forever. Yours is the first house I've come to. I was hoping I could use your phone," Klaus explained as politely (and falsely) as he could.
