08. your pride is vicious, sharper than any spear you wield

"Why did you not come back last night?"

"Because I came across some information that didn't really sit well with me." Foster risked a glance at her not-so-welcome house guest, instantly regretting it when she met her blue eyes. "Why do you care anyway?"

"In Chicago, you offered your friendship, I want to try that."

"That offer expired when you helped kill Tyler, and tried to snap my neck." Foster sent Rebekah a hard look. All she wanted in that moment was to be alone, that's all.

"You have blood on shirt," Rebekah whispered more to herself. "You've been feeding on humans."

Foster rolled her eyes. "I don't feed from humans, I kill them."

"Did you turn it off?" Rebekah asked, trying to look in Foster's eyes, but the girl turned away.

"No. I'm just sick and tired of being pushed around. I'm done. I don't want to be your friend, Rebekah. And you shouldn't want me to be yours," Foster said. She sent the blonde fleeting glare and walked away.

Damon killed Lexi. He killed her to get the council off his back, according to Stefan. The only person who truly understood and helped the youngest Salvatore was taken out of this world all because of her elder brother's selfish motives. The one person who Foster held any hope in killed her best friend. And lied about it for almost a year. He watched as Lexi's death tore her apart, and yet he said nothing. But is wasn't just Damon, all of them ― Elena, Stefan, Caroline, Bonnie, Alaric, all of them knew and yet they said nothing.

It angered her beyond anything, to be lied to for months over something that impacted her so much.

MESSAGE: DAMON

FAMILY DAY AT VAMPIRE REHAP. CARE TO JOIN?

Foster scoffed at the message and turned her phone off.

"Foster! Wait!" She didn't. Foster easily slid into the driver's seat of her car, not quite fast enough to lock the doors when another person climbed into the passenger seat. "Didn't you hear me?" Elena asked, slightly out of breath.

"Yes. Now get out, Elena." Elena gaped at her for a moment with furrowed eyebrows.

"What ―?"

"Did you know? I'm betting you did, but I'm going to give you benefit of the doubt. Did you know that Damon killed Lexi?" Foster questioned, her voice harsh.

Elena sighed and nodded meekly. "Yes, I did. But Foster, you have to understand why―"

"Why you didn't tell me?" Foster cut off. "Oh, I understand, Elena, I understand perfectly. All of you, especially Stefan, probably though I'd go a-wall, get pissed at Damon and turn off my humanity. You all probably thought you were protecting me. Am I right?" Another nod. "Well, that's not good enough. Now get the hell out of my car, Elena."

After a moment's hesitation, Elena did as she asked and stepped out of the car. Foster wasted no time pressing her foot to the gas pedal, leaving her friend in the dust, and heading towards the old Forbes jail cell.

"...it's family day at vampire rehab. Paying a visit to my baby brother."

"Then where's Foster?"

"She'll be here soon."

Foster walked down the stairs, slowly, not at all wanting to deal with either Salvatore. Both brothers looked toward the door when the noise of Foster's boots hit the floor.
