Adrian woke up to a car honking outside. He groggily rolled over in bed and pried open one eye to check the time; the clock glared 6:30 back at him.

"Shit!" he exclaimed in realization. He had overslept and now his best friend Kyle was outside waiting to take them both to school. He jumped out of bed tugging on the nearest clothes, not bothering to check if they were clean. Jammed his feet into shoes and flew down the stairs, bypassing the bathroom. Adrian snagged a banana out of the kitchen and threw his backpack over his shoulder as he past the living room and ran out the front door and towards the waiting truck.

"Sorry, I overslept," Adrian said as he buckled his seat-belt.

"No problem, its Saturday," Kyle replied as he turned the engine over.

Adrian glared at him for a full ten seconds before unbuckling his seat-belt and stepping out of the car just as Kyle started to back out so it was just slow enough for Adrian to get out.

"Where are you going," Kyle called out the window.

"To bed!" Adrian growled back.

"But I thought you wanted to go to the fair!" Kyle called back.

"Yeah, six at NIGHT, NOT THE MORNING," Adrian shouted back. He deposited the banana and his bag and the side table next to the front door and stomped up the stairs to his room where he promptly fell back asleep.

Three hours later Adrian woke up back and went downstairs to find Kyle lounging on the couch surfing TV channels.

"What are you still doing here?" Adrian asked.

"I didn't want to go back home if I was just going to have to come back here so we can go to the fair," Kyle explained.

"Adrian, there you are!" Adrian's mother--Ms. Mayer-- said as she walked out of the kitchen drying her hands on her apron. Her dark brown hair was tied back in a bun. "What was that all about this morning?"

"He woke me up at six thinking that was when I said we should go to the fair," Adrian explained.

"Didn't I say you either leave a few hours before six or don't go at all," Ms. Mayer reminded him. Her blue eyes cold.

"Aww, c'mon mom--," Adrian started but his mom cut him off.

"No! You are not staying out past sunset! How many times must I tell you!" she yelled furiously.

"But the whole school is going to be there!" Adrian complained. By this time Kyle was shrinking into the couch, a clear sign that he wanted to disappear.

"I don't care if the entire human population is going to be there! Your curfew is sunset, always has been and always be!"

"But Kyle and I are going to be with each other the whole time! And like you've know vampires don't attack groups of people! I'm not stupid, I'm not Jake!" Adrian retorted impatiently.

"I never said you were!"

"Then why can't I stay out past sunset?!"

"Because I said so and that's final!" with that Ms. Mayer stormed upstairs and disappeared into her room.

Adrian flung himself down on the couch next to Kyle in exasperation.

"Who's Jake?" Kyle asked a little timidly.

"A friend of hers from high school. They had gone to the movies one night with their friends and he left them to go to the bathroom alone despite of their protest. He never came back, finally her other friend Sam went to check on him only to find him dead with his head in the toilet."

"Vampire?"

"Yes."

They sat there in awkward silence until Kyle finally broke it saying in exasperation; "Well, there goes my chance."

"What do you mean" Adrian asked.

"My mom finally agreed to increase my curfew but only when I go out with others. It also came with a catch, if your mom would let you do the same it was a done deal." Kyle explained was a crestfallen expression.

Adrian thought about this for a second before say, "What they don't know won't hurt them." An evil grin slowly spread across his face and he stroked his chin for equal measure.

"What is it now," Kyle groaned.

"Listen closely," Adrian leaned over and whispered his plan into Kyle's ear. They were going to tell Ms. Mayer that Adrian was going to go straight to Kyle's after they leave the fair and spend the night so they can work on the 'project' their English teacher sprung on them. They were also going to tell Kyle's mom that Ms. Mayer agreed to let Adrian stay out past sunset. To make it believable they were going to work on the 'project' so if Ms. Mayer calls Kyle's mom can vouch for us unknowing.

"You got it?" Adrian asked.

"Yes," Kyle replied little skeptically.

"I'm going to get a bit to eat real quick and then we can head out."

"Umm," Kyle trailed off.

"What now?" Adrian demanded.

"Your mom made pancakes because there was no cereal and I ate them all," Kyle replied sheepishly.

"What are you a freaking garbage disposer?!" Adrian complained as he turned to stomp up the stairs to him room.

"Sorry!" Kyle called after him.
