Right after school, I decided to call Jaelin and see how she was doing. She texted me a couple weeks ago telling me she had a boyfriend. He sounded nice when she told me about him. I sure hope so. I grabbed my phone out of my pocket. One ring. Two rings. Three, and then she answered.

"Hello?"

"Hey Jae Bae, it's Kk." That's my nickname. Well, I only let her call me that.

"Oh! I-I have to go. Bye!" She shouted then hung up. That was odd. She never, under any circumstances was the first to hang up. And she never ended our conversations so quickly. Something's up. I decided to get it out of my head. She's fine. She tells me anything and everything.

As I was walking home, I got thirsty and went to the gas station down the street to get a Coke. When I opened the door, I saw Jake sitting in a booth in the diner part of the building. It wasn't a big diner, but they had milkshakes so it was ok.

"Hey Jake, what's up?" I asked, hoping he wouldn't give a long answer. I just needed to think. About CJ. About Jaelin. About my dad.

"Nothing much," he says, "Just doing my homework."

I took a look at his homework. "Ahh, algebra. Wonderful!" I said jokingly.

"Simple stuff. Hey, wanna catch a movie later?" Wow. Did he just ask me on a date?

"Uh... sure. Why not?" I say. I can't even think anymore. Did he mean an action movie, for friends? Or a romance. Like a date.

"Okay. Meet you at the mall at... five?" He says. Ok. Romance means time. Five o'clock is pretty early. Not like seven.

"Sounds great." I say with a smile. It might have been a nervous smile.

Later that night, I met Jake at the mall and we ended up seeing Home, the movie about the cute little alien and the human finding the humans mom. Well at least it wasn't romantic. Towards the end of the movie. He put his arm around my shoulder.

"This is a cute movie." He said.

"Yea," I reply.

"You know how the alien is different from all the others, but so is the human and they help each other?" He asks

I nod in reply.

"Well Katie, you're my human." He says.

Then he kissed me.
