Today, I decided to go over to Jake's house. I got bored, and kinda lonely without my mom being home. I don't know where she is. She's been out a lot lately and I rarely ever see her, and when I do, she just gives me money to buy food or something. I miss her. She used to be such a cool mom, but now it feels like she's left me.
I went up to Jake's house and knocked on his door.
"Hey!" Jake said as he answered the door.
"Hey." I said.
"So, about what you told me-" he started before I cut him off.
"Can we not talk about this?"I asked. As much as it seems that he cares, I don't need to talk about it with anyone. He already knew that my mom was abused but he didn't know I was. He let me inside and I sat down on his couch.
"Sure." he said sitting on the couch as well.
We just stared at each other. I just noticed how his eyes were a darker shade of brown than mine were. We have very similar features, other than that, our hair is brown, our skin tanned from the sun and according to what his mom told me when I met her, we have big smiles. He reminded me of a YouTuber I'm great friends with, Kian Lawley. I used to have a small crush on him, but then it kinda wore off and we've been friends since we met.
"Why are you staring at me?" he asked. Oops. I didn't realize I was staring at at him for that long.
"Because you were staring at me." I replied. Honestly, I'm pretty sure I was staring at him first.
"Okay..."
"Hey, Kitty!" Jake's older brother, Blake said as he walked into the room. When I first introduced myself to him, he thought I said "Kitty" instead of "Katie", and once I corrected him he just decided to call me "Kitty" cause he liked it better. It made me think of The Hunger Games and how Gale called Katniss, Catnip.
"Hey Blake," I replied with a smile, trying to make things less awkward and it didn't really work. Once I said that he returned the smile and walked into the kitchen to, most likely, grab something to eat.
"So why did you come over?" Jake asked
"I got bored. Mom wasn't home and I had nothing to do."
I must have had some sort of sad expression on my face because Jake leaned in and hugged me. I hesitated for a moment before hugging back. It only lasted a few seconds.
"Sorry, you just looked a little sad." He said while pulling back and looking down at his feet
"It's okay. I just felt lonely," I said. It felt weird thinking that someone cared about me besides my mom. Actually, I don't even think my mom cares about me that much. "Why did you hug me?"
"I told you, you looked sad," he told me.
"Well yea, I know that, but why? Why do you care about me?" I asked
"Because Katie, ever since you moved here you've seemed... depressed. And I don't like it. So I want to make you happy. Making people happy is something I like to do." He said, smiling at the last part.
"Thanks." I told him. I didn't realize I was smiling to until his smile got bigger and he hugged me again. But this time the hug lasted for what seemed like forever.
"Hey, you wanna help me make a YouTube video? I haven't made one in a while." I asked Jake. He smiled and nodded in return.
I walked back to my house to get the lights and the camera and my computer and once o walked in I heard laughter in the kitchen. I could tell it was my mom... and some other person as well.
"So where's your daughter?" Someone asked my mom.
I walked near the entrance of the kitchen so I could hear the conversation.
"I think she's at the neighbors' house. She goes over there a lot." She replied.
"When can I meet her?" The other person asked. It sounded like a man.
"I don't know. Ever since Tom left and tried to take her, she hasn't talked to many boys- or men at all, except for the neighbor. She gets along with him well." She told him.
Is that what she thought? That when my dad left I didn't want to talk to any guys. First of all, like I said, most guys are disgusting, and second of all, not only did I not talk to guys in general, I didn't talk to anyone at all.
"Hey mom." I said as I walked in, acting like I didn't hear anything at all.
"Oh hi honey," she started,"Jeff, this is my daughter, Katie. Katie, this is my friend, Jeff."
"'Sup?" I said, looking at this 'Jeff' dude.
"Hello. It's nice to meet finally meet you," he said and held out his hand for me to shake. As I smoke his hand I cringed at thought of how 'proper' he is. He wore a collared shirt with a sweater over it and khakis with dress shoes. I looked at his hand I shook and noticed a watch... 'A Rolex?!?' I thought to myself. 'He must be rich.'
"Well I just came over from Jakes' to grab my camera equipment." I told them both
"You make films?" Jeff asked me
"No. I make YouTube videos." I told him with a blank expression
"Oh. My daughter watches YouTube videos. She your age." He said, smiling at the last part.
Wow. If he's rich, his daughter must be some stuck up bitch with anything she wants.
"Where's your wife, Jeff?" I immediately regretted asking that when his smile faded away.
"Oh, she passed away a couple years ago in a fire. She was a firefighter slash paramedic." He told me. Damn. Now I felt bad. His wife died saving peoples' lives.
I frowned and told him,"Well, I'm very sorry sir. I'm gonna grab my things, and you two... have fun."
"Thank you, Katie. It was nice meeting you," he said.
I just have him a weak smile and went up to my room. I felt really bad. Like really really bad.
I grabbed my equipment and my Obey snapback and left.
"What took you so long?" Jake asked as I walked in without knocking.
"My mom had someone over." I told him
"Who was is it?"
"A guy. His name is Jeff." I told him. (A/N: I know what you're thinking. And no, it was NOT intended to be a Vine reference...)
"Oh, well, let's start this thang biatch!!" He yelled and I laughed.Author's Note: Hehe, sorry I haven't updated in a while... I feel bad. I'm not the best at updating but I hope you enjoyed this chapter!! ily <3
