The next day, Bucky and I are walking down the street and we stop by the restaurant. We both stop and look in, and I see the server pouring a drink for the man. Bucky stops and smiles a little. He nods his head, understanding the man has been able to continue on, and we walk away. I can feel in his hands he is a little tense, but eventually relaxes. He gave someone closure, even though it was difficult for both of them. Thean showed Bucky that life can go on, even after the nightmares.
As we walk, he tells me what he did with his book. He gave it to his therapist, feeling that he was finally done with it. All the names were crossed off, and the book was no longer needed.
Some time passed and it was finally time to celebrate. Bucky and I met up with Sam and what felt like the whole neighborhood for the party Sam was throwing. The boat was fixed, the war was over, and it was time to enjoy it.
It was so amazing to see Bucky playing around with Sam's nephews. They thought he was so funny and they adored him. We spent a lot of time just talking to everyone, and every chance he got, Bucky introduced me as his soulmate. It was the truth, but made me blush every time. He was so proud of us, as a team, as a couple. And it felt like the hard work we put into it was finally coming to fruition.
At the end of the day, Sam is watching the sunset. Bucky walks up to him and they smile at each other. I can't help but watch the two of them for a moment. Then I call their names and then they both return to us at the party.
Finally, we can have our own time to rest. Our own time to finally move on, and grow in our new lives.
