The alarm on my phone woke me up at 6:30 the next morning, blaring, and causing me to jump. "Frank," I mumble as I fall out of bed and stand up, throwing pants on while I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and going for the door. "Frank, it's time to get up. Satan will be here in an hour and I'd rather her not see us in a state of hot mess-ness." I tell him as he groans, shoving a pillow over his head.
"You have 5 minutes or I'm sending in Mary to jump on you." I say, before closing the door on his unintelligible grumblings. As I turn around, I jump as I see Mary is already up and dressed, her bag slung on her shoulder. "Are you that eager to be away from us?"
"No, I'm just excited to see Boston. And where my mom and Frank grew up." I smile but it doesn't quite reach my eyes.
"Just please, be on your best behavior this weekend. I know that she's going to take you to a lot of places with new people. Remember, no one likes a smart ass."
"I know Georgia. You and Frank tell me that all the time." She says rolling her eyes.
I let it slide this time. "Just because you're the smartest person in every room you enter, doesn't make the opinions of the others in it any less valuable."
"Even if they're wrong?"
"Especially then. You're not always going to be right Mary. And when that day comes, think about how you wanted to be treated." She ponders this for a moment before nodding. "That is how you should treat people."
By this point Frank had joined us and we moved around the kitchen in unison, making breakfast for us and Mary, as we would have any other day.
At 7:30 on the dot there was a knock on the door. Frank went and opened it, revealing Evelyn on the other side. "Is she ready to go?" she asks, haughtily. I come up beside Frank.
"She is. She's been bathed and fed too." I say sarcastically. We walk Mary to the car, and she stops, giving us both hugs.
"We'll see you in two days." Frank tells her.
"Be good." I whisper into her hair when she hugs me. She nods at me before getting in the car. "Her bedtime is 9. Make sure she sticks to it, or you will regret it in the morning."
She scoffs. "I have raised children before Georgia."
"You can't say I didn't warn you." I say as she gets in the car and drives away with half of my heart. As soon as they're around the corner I let a single tear fall.
"Are you going to be ok with going this weekend?" Frank asks, wrapping his arms around me. I bury my face in his chest.
"I need something to distract me." He nods and then we go and grab our bags, throwing them in the bed of the truck before taking off.
I fell back asleep at some point against Franks arm, which I felt him place around me before I went completely under. What felt like a short time later, he nudges me awake. "We're here." He whispers and I jump awake in time to watch us drive under the welcome sign.
Frank follows the signs directing him to our hotel, the Caribbean Beach Resort, and we pull up to the front of the main building of our hotel. "How long have you been planning this?" I ask.
He shrugs. "It came together last minute but I was going to do it for our anniversary this year and just ask Roberta if she could keep Mary. You've been wanting to do this since we moved here. It's about time."
I hug him as he helps me out of the truck, and we go inside to check in. They give us our room number and we get back in the truck, following the signs to Aruba. "It was so cute how they named each section of rooms after an island in the Caribbean," I say to Frank as we drive around to where our hotel room is.
"Are you excited?" he asks as we pull into a parking spot in front of our building.
I waste no time in jumping out of the cab and running around to his side, throwing my arms around him as I do. "Yes. Thank you so much!" I squeal as I pepper his face with kisses.
"Well, let's drop our bags in the room and then we can get to whichever park you want to go to."
I smile evilly. "You've given me way too much power here. You're going to regret this trip."
"Maybe. But I haven't seen you smile like this in weeks. So, where to first?"
I'm jumping up and down, adrenaline buzzing. "Magic Kingdom." We drop the bags in our room and then go to the bus station. I pull up the app to see when the next bus will get here. "Ok, so we only have to wait like 5 minutes for the next bus to get here." I say before slipping my phone into the Loungefly bag that I packed special for our time at the Magic Kingdom, it's black leather with black and white gingham pattern on the pockets. On the center by the top there was a little Pooh fastened to the bag.
The bus pulled up shortly after and once we found a spot in the back corner, we were on our way. "Ok, Mr. Grumpypants, there are some rules that you need to follow." He gives me a look, probably more so at the nickname then the rules I was laying down. "You have to smile, the whole time. I'm getting pictures done and if you even think about frowning in any of them, you're dead. Second, do not get angry, or frustrated by the cast members. It's all part of the experience you paid for, so you're going to enjoy it. And when we get home after this weekend, I'll make it up to you."
"Fine." He sighs, placing a kiss on my lips.
"Good, cause we're here!" I say as our bus comes to a stop.
