I woke up in an unfamiliar place. It looked like a hospital. But there was something that just reeked of pain and suffering. I hadn't noticed but I was in a hospital bed, my head wasn't all there as far as I could tell. I soon heard beeping. It was a heart monitor. 'I must be in the medical wing..or..nevermind.' You thought not paying any more attention to your surroundings.
I stared up at the ceiling for a while before I heard the door open. It was Lady Dimitrescu and some other woman that voice I hadn't recognized. Then Donna came in. "Is she alright?!" Donna said to the woman. "She should wake up soon, we've been through this almost the whole three weeks." The woman said. My heart sank when she said three weeks. 'Three..weeks..? I was asleep for THREE WEEKS?' I wanted to sit up but for some reason I couldn't. "Lady Donna, we found some interesting effects from her being asleep for this long." Another woman said. 'Oh god...what would make my life even worse..?'
"Please say it's nothing life threatening."
"No, but we are still unsure what is happening. At the moment she might be awake but can't move. It might be the parasite in her body that has basically paralyzed her. We don't know how long she is going to be paralyzed." I felt the mood in the room shift drastically. 'I'm paralyzed? You've got to be kidding.'
" you're awake, finally now find a way to let me out."
'And why would I do that?'
"So you can move of course, I'm mostly stuck but I can still move around in your head."
'Well, I can't really do anything.'
"Try..uh...my mind just went blank"
'Such a help you are.'
"WAIT! Try waking up."
'But I'm already awake..?'
"Oh shit. NOT AGAIN!!"
I woke up. I was in the same place as I was in the dream. I tried to move my fingers, and some of them moved but my ring finger wouldn't. 'Great, it's selective paralyzation.' I could move one leg. 'You've got to be fucking with me.' I tried to move it again. Nothing. 'DAMNIT! Guess I'm not using my left leg..' I could move everything else except my ring finger on my right arm and my left leg. 'That's not too bad' I laid back down as I heard someone walking down the hallway. It wasn't heavy steps or light steps, it was more of like a half stomp. Like you wanted the ground to shake beneath you.
A woman came in, in a doctor's outfit. I'm guessing she's taking my vitals. I pretend to wake up. "Oh hello! I didn't notice you were awake."
"You're fine!" I say looking her up and down. She was very pretty and she seemed like a kind person. "I'm Doctor Malcine, but you can call me Doctor Mal if it's easier for you." She said, making eye contact. "I'm sure you already know me, but I'm Y/n." She chuckled. "How are you feeling?" She asked. "I feel okay, figured out that I can't move my ring finger on my right and can't move my left leg at all. So that's fun."
"Ah I see. So the medication is working. That's good news. Your whole body was paralyzed before."
"Oh. How lovely." She laughed. "I like your sarcastic humor, I don't see people like you very often." I raise an eyebrow. "Was that supposed to be a compliment or an insult? I'm genuinely confused." She smiled "take it which way you see it."
"Ah, well thank you for the insult." She laughed. "Well, I better get you some food, are you hungry?" She asked, though I think my stomach growling answered her question. "Welp, there's my answer." She laughed and walked out of the room. I began to feel sick to my stomach. Like my stomach was trying to twist itself inside out. 'Fucks sake.' I thought curling up into a ball with the leg I could move. 'God this feels weird.' A few minutes later my stomach stopped hurting and Donna came in. "Y/n..?" She knocked before coming in. "Hello, my love." I say. She looked at me concerned. "What's wrong?" I ask, she comes to the side of the bed and cups my cheek with her hand. "God, I missed you." She said, kissing me. We both pulled back. She probably regrets that because I know my breath is horrible "How..how long was I asleep for?" After I said that Donna looked nervous when I asked the question. "Uhm...you were asleep for about 2 months..." I slapped my hand over my mouth. "It's not that bad! It's been 8 weeks! You woke up from time to time but I doubt you remember." She explained, basically shaking. I couldn't tell if she was scared, excited or she was both. "I-" I was in disbelief. I couldn't get what I wanted to say out, I kind of panicked.
Mal came back a few minutes later with my breakfast. Me and Donna had been talking in the meantime, Donna, trying to get me caught up with everything that happened while I was asleep. "Ah, lady Donna, I didn't know you came in! My apologies!" She bowed. "It's fine, I was just trying to get Y/n caught up with everything." Donna sounded kind of irritated. "Does she not like her or something?"
'Oh. She probably heard me talking to her and got jealous.'
"Sounds like Donna to be completely honest." It chuckled.
Mal handed me my breakfast. "Thanks!" I said as I started stuffing my face. "No problem! If either of you need anything just call me, alright?" Donna nodded. Mal left immediately, I noticed she was walking heavier than she was before. Did Donne being there piss her off or something? I finished eating. "What's her deal?" I asked Donna, looking at me. "Hm..I don't know." I shrugged my shoulders. "She was just fine earlier..I wonder if she's jealous..?" That got Donna's eye to twitch. "Hey..since I can't move my one leg, do you think I'll need crutches?" Saying that made Donna perk up. "Uhm, maybe if the medication stops working." I raised an eyebrow. "So...you mean..the medication can stop working?" My face went pale. Donna's face told me everything I needed to know. It could and it would. "Damnit.." I sat up completely. I started to think about what I could do about it. I know I'm not a professional but I could at least give advice to make better medicine. Although it could take years to form.
I leaned back, looking up at the ceiling. I noticed that the ceiling was popcorn but had a cut off in one part.
I tapped Donna on the shoulder. "Hm?" I pointed up to the spot in the ceiling. "How odd." Donna tilted her head to the left. She squinted her eyes and I could tell she was thinking. "I wonder if...hm..nevermind, I shouldn't have even said anything." Donna looked back at you and smiled. "What were you going to say?" I ask, waiting for a reply.
"Just forget about it. It was dumb anyway."
"No, you can't do that to me!" I whined
"Yes, I can, dear." She giggled a little.
"Please, tell me." I gave her puppy dog eyes.
"Hey..you can't do that to me." She said, crossing her arms. "Yes, I can, dear." I said, mocking Donna. She smiled and rolled her eyes.
This went on for ten minutes, before Alcina came in. "Oh? So that's where you've been Donna." She smiled and walked to the end of my bed. She looked at me for a minute. Donna started tapping her shoe on the floor making Alcina look at her. Lady Dimitrescu raised an eyebrow and Donna gave her a look that made her face drop and she looked back at me.
I nervously smiled as I watched both of them. Lady Dimitrescu's face brooded as she was looking at me. She looked like she was thinking about what to say next, maybe trying to pick her words out carefully. "Y/n..I have news that you might not find pleasant." She takes a deep breath and looks down. She looks back up to make eye contact with me. "Miranda..she's-" she chokes up on her words. "She's dead."
