"As you all are well aware of, tomorrow you will all be going on a week long field trip to California. You are all to meet here by 8:15am tomorrow morning with all of your baggage, and at 8:30am we will all leave for the Nashville International Airport and board the 11:00am flight. We will arrive in California by 4:30pm. We will check into our hotel, remember; two students per room. Boys with the boys, girls with the girls." She said, pointedly looking at a couple of the troublemakers.

~~~~~
"Oh my god I can't wait to go!" Natalie yells in excitement as I unlock my front door. Most afternoons we either go to her house or mine.
"I know, we have to pack!" I reply, thinking of the outfits I should bring.
"Oh yeah! You have spending money right?" She asks me seriously.
"Of course, I'm trying to pack light so I can bring more stuff back!" I laugh.
We run upstairs and burst into my room. Plopping onto my bed at the same time, we pull out homework that we have, and quickly finish it.
"Text me later ok?" Natalie yells as she walks to her house, and I drive back home.
When I get home I excitedly look through my closet, picking out shorts and tank tops, a sundress, and anything else I'll need for California. This trip is going to be awesome!
~~~~~

Beep! Beep! Beep! This time it really is my alarm, my brother wouldn't be up this early. Turning my alarm off, I remember that today is the trip, and all sleepiness leaves me. I grab the outfit I had laid out last night and went to take a shower.
Standing in front of my mirror, I flat iron my hair so its straight, its tips reaching down to my ribs. Smiling, I put some light makeup on, and call Natalie to tell her I'm heading over.

~~~~~
"Oh my gosh I'm so excited!" Natalie exclaims as she climbs in my car. Both of our suitcases and carry ons are in the trunk. As we pull into the school parking lot, I can't help but be overwhelmed with excitement just like Natalie. I mean, we're going to California for two whole weeks! How cool is that? The trip has been a tradition for the school's seniors for years. The best part-its not even educational!
~~~~

"Ohmygodohmygodohmygod" Natalie sqeals loudly in my ear and grips my arm.
We are on a ratty old yellow schoolbus with about thirty other seniors and a couple teachers, and we are at the airport. As we all climb off the bus, the teachers triple check our names and hand us our tickets. Natalie and I bounce up and down happily, grabbing our luggage and giggling like little girls.
"Everybody stick together, and if any of you are found with any weapons or drugs in the detectors you are getting left behind!" Our strict librian screams at us, causing some people to glance curiously at our group.
"Got it?!" She yells.
"Yes...Ma'am." Everyone reluctantly mutters.
As we walk into the airport, I see a kid I don't know throw a plastic baggy into the trashcan. Thanking him silently in my head for that, because if the security found it on him we would all miss our flight.

~~~~
"All passengers boarding flight 23, please head to gate 9. I repeat; all passengers boarding flight 23, please head to gate 9." A voice drones over the speakers, and Natalie and I squeal with excitement. We are really doing it! We are going to California. This is what I have been looking forward to since freshman year!
We giddily hand our tickets over to the flight attendant, and she shows us to our seats. Smiling like complete idiots, we snap about a million pictures, and quickly upload them to instagram before putting our phones on airplane mode.
Across the aisle from us, are two cute boys from our school. Nudging Natalie, I point over at them and we burst into giggles.
'I'm gonna watch movies now, wanna join me?" Natalie asks me, but I shake my head. Popping my headphones in, I lean back as my favorite playlist starts to play.
~~~~

"Psst! Hey!" A low voice whisper shouts to me, pulling out one of my headphones.
"What?" I ask, looking across the aisle to see one of the cute guys poking my arm.
"Well, I was bored, you see." He starts to explain, "and Jack here," he gestures to the other guy sitting next to him, "has fallen asleep. So I decided to make a new friend." He grins stupidly at me.
"Oh my god, you're so weird." I mumble.
"Yeah..." he trails off. "Anyways, my names Seth, whats yours?" He asks, totally unaffected by my putdown.
"Shailie." I reply with a smile, he seems nice enough.
We end up talking for hours about tiny things, like 'why hasn't anyone discovered unicorns yet?' or, 'why havn't scientists revealed the true potential of potatoes?' Now, they may seem like stupid questions that 4th graders ask, but let me tell you, they are. We just happen to be very immature.
"May I have your attention? All passangers please put your seatbelts on, we will start our decent in 10 minutes, expect to arrive at the airport within the hour. Thank you." A pleasant voice sounds over the speakers.
Finally! We're in California!
