Becoming a Key Blade Master (Riku x reader)

Chapter 15

It was kind of awkward the rest of the break. Neku and Riku seemed to have this...different aura around them. As if there was some sort of war no one can see other than me.

They seem to be having a stare off when no one is looking or even notice. No one but me I suppose. I don't know what's causing this. They were just fine the day before at the beach and now they seem to hate each other. Especially when everyone got together to eat breakfast. And they insisted I sit next to both of them, so I'm often at the end of the table with them facing each other.

"Riku, can you past the toast?" Namine asked. 'Namine, notice please!' RIku hands her the plate of toast and looks up at Riku concerned. "Hey, Riku."

'Yes! Someone finally noticed!'

"You um...got something in your hair."

'NO!'

Riku takes the strand feather from his hair and throws it behind him. "Thanks. Probably from the pillow."

Breakfast was over and I felt like I might have aged a bit from that morning. I left to get my things as it was our last day at the hotel before we leave later this evening. Xion came up to me as she was next door to me. "Hey, (y/n). You don't look so well. Did you not sleep well last night?"

"N-No it's not that..."

"Is it the Xehanorts?" The Xehanorts? Xion saw my confused look and gasped as she let something slip. "I-I'm sorry, ignore what I said."

"No, please. Tell me why you think that?" Xion was hesitant for a bit and was about to speak when she was interrupted by Namine. "Xion, can you help with the packing?" Xion quickly went to help her, avoiding answering my question. 'What did she mean by the Xehanorts? Are they up to something?'

It made me flash back to the time I made eye contact with one of them. That gaze in the hallway had something malicious behind it. Or... even something worse. I was so lost in thought, my body was going on auto pilot. I didn't realize I was at the car we came in for this trip. Forgetting to call dibs on where I sat. "(y/n), you listening?"

I looked up and realized Neku was talking to me. "Y-Yeah, is there something you need?"

"You're in the back."

"Oh, of the van? Okay."

"You sure you're going to be comfortable?"

"I don't mind the cramp space."

"No, I mean being in the back with me and Riku."

'Eh?'

"You're sitting in the back with us since me and Riku usually don't pick where to sit."

'EH?!' Wait...I'll be sitting in the tight back of the van... with Riku and Neku...

"Yeah, you didn't say anything and all the others didn't want it so..."

"Oh, i-it's fine. Let me put my bag in the trunk."

Oh dear, I didn't realize what had happened. I don't know what to do now with the tension from those two. And worst, this is a 3 hour ride back to the academy.

"Everyone in? We better hit the rubber if we want to make it back before nightfall!" Axel said as he was the one driving us.

So here we are, sitting between the two guys having an internal war in the back of the van. One who is my crush and the other who almost made a move on me. 'This...will be a longest ride ever.' I thought to myself.

Time had passed by. I didn't even realize we had stopped at a station to get snacks. I guess I was so tired that I fell asleep. 'Something feels heavy...why's that?'

I looked to my sides and realized I was stuck. Both of them fell asleep on my shoulders! "(y/n), do you want to make a trip to the...oh~" Kairi stopped herself as she saw my situation. "Never mind...I can see you're occupied." She giggled and closed the door. "Don't worry, I'll get you a snack from the station."

'Kairi! Please don't just smirk and giggle! Help me!' Is what I wanted to say, but couldn't as I didn't want to wake them up. The door closed to the van, leaving just us three in the back seats. 

Some time had passed and I finally got to look down to see if they had woken up. Neku didn't have his headphones on like usual. His hair, despite it looking so spiky, was actually really soft against me. Riku was laying on my shoulder, I hope his back doesn't hurt when he wakes up. He is taller than me, so this is quite a ways down to rest on. His eyelashes are longer than I expected. And Neku feels softer than he looks with his face against my shoulder.

I was so lost in thought, only the sound of the van's car door opening brought me back into existence. "(y/n), I got you some water and a bag of chips." Sora said loudly as he had three bottles of water in one hand and many different bags of chips in the other. This woke up Riku and Neku from their slumber. "Sora...Some of us are trying to sleep. Don't be so loud." Riku said as he woke up. Neku just rubbed his eyes quietly and looked over to Sora as he leaned over the middle car seat to offer us our drinks and snacks.

The rest of the ride wasn't as bad. Neku and Riku didn't seem to exchange any words as they had their snacks. I awkwardly had my food as well. Every now and then, I would glance at Xion since what she said earlier kept dawning on my mind. Neku nudged my arm to break me out of my thoughts. "(y/n), want to listen to something? I thought you'd like to get your mind off of things." Before I could say anything, he had placed his headphones over my ears.

The music was loud enough where I couldn't really hear the noise from the van. And the content was really nice, not too loud and the lyrics were nice. I looked up to see Neku not looking at me, but at Riku.

'Oh no, this war is happening again.' It looks like Riku and Neku are saying something to each other. Yet I can't hear it. Before I can try to take the headphones off, the van stopped as we had reached the academy. The trip has ended, but I don't feel as refreshed as intended. In fact...

'I feel even more mentally exhausted.'
