Phoenix's POV
I wait until 1:45 to get ready to Hagrid's hut. I'm relieved to find that everyone, including Draco, is passed out in the common room.
I walk back up to my bunk and reach under the bed, pulling out the one thing my parents left me. An invisibility cloak. It is the rarest kind you will ever find. there are only two in the whole world. The wearer chooses whether or not it makes them invisible. When I choose for it not to, it is a rich, deep crimson, lined in black fur.
I sigh over its beauty one more time before putting it on and telling it to make me invisible.
I walk silently, a skill that comes naturally with both of my species, and slip out of the dorm.
After a few close calls with various teachers, including one with Professor Snape where I almost sneezed as he stared at the air in front of me suspiciously, I manage to get out of the front door.
Right as I was about to slip out, I hear a quiet swish behind me.
I spin around, forgetting my invisibility, and look around. I search for over a minute, using my extra senses to find anything out of the ordinary.
After a tense minute, I hear it again, right behind me. But this time, I turn slowly and silently.
My eyes widen, taking in the source of the noise. Then I laugh quietly at myself.
Sitting there staring at me, is a rather ugly-looking cat. Grey and tattered, it's big yellow eyes stare angrily at me, as if knowing that I shouldn't be out of bed.
It makes me nervous. I blink my eyes and flash my crimson irises at the cat, watching it scamper away. I look around, letting my eyes relax in their natural state, instead of the golden color I force them to stay in.
My sight is a hundred times sharper in this state, so I easily see the shadow around the corner that I missed before.
I inhale slowly, taking in the scent. I feel a smile creep across my face. I whisper to the cloak, making myself visible again, and make my eyes gold. "I thought you were asleep, Draco." I say, quietly and calmly, like I didn't just get caught trying to sneak out.
He steps out of the shadows, his normal smirk across his face. "I thought the same about you, Phoenix."
I try to be intimidating, without using my natural, and scary as hell, traits. "Go back to bed, Drake." he smirks at my try at a nickname. "I have stuff to take care of. I'll be back in an hour or two."
He snickers, looking at me like I'm stupid. "You're thick if you think that I'm letting you go off on your own. You don't even know your way around. You could get lost."
I bite my lip, knowing he has a point. I put my hand on the small bag on my side, feeling the familiar heat of the dragons egg. Even covered in five socks and the bag, it radiates heat like a small fire.
I sigh. "Fine. I need help getting to Hagrid's hut. But after we get there, you need to leave." I state, glaring at him.
He smirks. "And why is that?"
I glare harder, running out of ways to avoid telling him the whole truth. "Because I said so. I have personal things to take care of."
He rolls his eyes. "Whatever."
I open my mouth, planning on arguing, but then I glance at my watch. 1:55.
Damn it! I glare at him. "Lead the way."
