Lia

I decided to visit my new neighbor. He seems nice, maybe. I still have a weird feeling about him. He is awfully suspicious. And his sudden appearance doesn't help remove that suspicion from him
Maybe I'll know more by spending some neighborly time with him.

I knock on the door, but he doesn't answer. I knock again, and the door creaks open, and I see him pop his head out of the door. I turn back. "Uhh hey" I say nervously. He rubs his eyes and says "Hello". Holy Shit, he's shirtless.

"I was thinking maybe to uhh get to know my neighbor, you know...ummm If it's an inappropriate time then I can go and come back later."

"No, no, it's alright, come in"

I get in, and the place doesn't look anything like the semi-torn down apartment of Miss Montana. The walls are freshly painted matte black, and there is new furniture. A leather couch, a glass coffee table, and paintings. It's so elegant.

"So, what's your name, I realized I never got your name" I say awkwardly, turning to look at him. Now he had a grey shirt on. "Uhh.. I'm Kai" he says.

"What about you? " he says, going to sit on the leather couch. "I'm Lia" I say. I sat in the chair opposite to him.

"So, where did you move here from" I ask,
"Scotland, where are you from".

"I-uh.. I'm from England, but my parents used to travel a lot for business so I never really ever lived there. We moved here to New York."

I say looking away from him. "Where are your parents now" he asks.

"Oh...they're dead..uhh..car accident" I say, looking down to the floor.

"Oh I'm incredibly sorry" he says in an apologetic tone. There is an awkward silence before I speak.

"What about your parents?" I ask looking up to meet his eyes.

"Well, they...gave me for adoption." He says, trying not to show emotions, but I can see the hurt in his eyes.

"That sucks" I say, which makes him laugh slightly. That makes me laugh a little too. "Sorry, bad timing?" I say, trying to mask a laugh.

"No, actually it isn't" he says, still  laughing slightly.

"Thank you, seriously, I needed that" he says genuinely, lifting his eyes to meet mine. We stay there in eye contact for a few minutes. I break the contact realizing we've been staring at each other.

"Uhh well it's was nice meeting you Kai, but unfortunately I have got to go. My students are quite impatient, I'm quite late." I say scrambling to stand up, he stands as well. I straighten my clothes and head for the door, and he follows.

He opens the door and I head outside. I give him a shy smile, and say "thank you for your time", and head for the elevator.

I grab a cup of coffee on my way to the dance studio.

I sigh, he seems like a decent guy, but there is something suspicious about him. I still don't know how I feel like he seems familiar after the encounter. Maybe I'm hallucinating. You never know.
