Chapter 3

Alice

Something is going on with Circe, and I know it is going to intervene with my family sometime soon, but I'm worried if we wait then there will be much worse outcomes. I keep seeing small glimpses of their life, them in a forest looking around scared, their figure on the ground reflecting in someone's eyes, and most worryingly of them biting someone.

I saw them during lunch, and most would not be able to see past her glasses, but I'm not most. Their eyes are red, and I know those aren't contacts. At some point yesterday they got bit, and if my family doesn't help them then they are going to bite someone else.

I somehow managed to get her number, and Edward would say I have ulterior motives, but in the end, I at least have a way to contact her.

As I drive home, I grab my phone and flip it open, finger hanging over the dial button.

What should I say? I mean it would be weird of me to just invite her over, only for my family to grill her, I mean that would be terrifying.

I finally hit the button, hearing the annoyingly distinct ringing sound come from the phone.

It feels like it goes on forever, until I hear a beep, and a small raspy, "Hello?"

Oh, she actually answered, I didn't really think I'd get this far.

"Oh, um hi. It's Alice, the one from the bathroom," I cheer, trying to stay calm as best as possible.

She hesitates, "Oh yeah, I almost forgot," well that kind of hurts, but she continues, "Can I ask why you wanted my number?"

"Oh, uhm well. You see," I stutter, my face somehow heating up even though I don't have blood, "I thought you were cute?"

I just needed an excuse, that's all it is, I don't really think she's cute. I mean sure they have this adorable style like they don't care about the world, and her hair is perfectly messy, curling around their ears. There are scars on her knuckles, presumably from fights, and while I wish they wouldn't get in fights, the fact that she can take care of herself is amazing.

But no, it was just an excuse.

Tuning back into the conversation, I hear them coughing up a hack, spitting out, "What!? Oh sorry, I mean uhm okay I think your cool too?"

Wow, I don't know if that was a compliment or them trying to let me down easily.

"Uhm, do you want to hang out," I question, speeding up in tone, "and I know it's really sudden but you know you're really cool, and uhh, yeah."

She hesitates, "Oh, sure I guess, and thanks. You're really cool too."

Celebrating silently, I make plans with her for her to come meet me at my house, and then we'll go to the small strip mall downtown.

As you can tell I definitely followed the bi-weekly rule. Totally isn't like I haven't done crap for almost four months. So yeah, sorry. Here it is. I might start rapid posting so be prepared.
