CHAPTER 8
Circe
Alice and I have been walking for a while, currently taking a break in the town square. Alice keeps trying to induce visions to try and find them, but it just hasn't been working.
My breathing gets quicker and quicker, making it harder to breathe. For a second it felt like the world was spinning until I felt a small squeeze in the palm of my hand. Looking up, I see Alice with a strained smile, rubbing her thumb on the back of my hand.
It calms me almost instantly, letting me get a clearer thought. It's Thursday at 4 PM, where will everyone be. Well, I know they had that science project, so they're probably in the forest!
"Hey, I think I might know where they are," I whisper yell at Alice, not wanting to disrupt those around us.
She questions in a quiet tone, "Where?"
"We have this spot we go in the forest," I begin, pausing to think on how to word this, "where we would do experiments at. When we were younger it was just a fun area to hang out at, but now we use it to do homework and for science projects."
Alice giggles at the pure absurdity of it, but stands up with me as we walk towards the edge of town.
As soon as we are out of sight of people, we run. Not a vampire run, just a jog. I'm still not used to the vampire run, it makes me nauseous.
When we are about half a mile from the spot, we stop running, not wanting to scare them away. That sounds awful like we're predators and they're our prey. I hate it.
As we walk upon the clearing, I begin to hear everyone's voices, and the sorrow in all of their voices makes me feel immediately guilty.
"-and their parents said they haven't been home for like a week. I am beginning to get really worried about where she is," I hear Cain say, her voice wobbling in worry.
I choke back a small sob, guilt rolling through my body like a plague. I didn't realize they thought I was missing. Uh, I'm so stupid! Of course, they thought I was missing, I haven't been home for a week and have been ignoring their calls and texts.
Alice holds my hand, silently promising that she'll be there with me. I take a deep breath, failing to calm my anxieties.
I step into the clearing, and while at first, no one notices, Cain turns in my direction immediately gasping at my presence.
I smile a pitiful grin, immediately regretting it. God, that is just so condescending.
All three of them run to my side, crushing me in an immensely suffocating group hug. As they all pull back, I see an angry frown on both Zelda and Cain's faces, but Waylon is focused on Alice standing next to me, still holding my hand.
"W-why are you holding Alice Cullen's hand?" Waylon stutters, tracing his hand up and down his arm, which I know is a tactic he uses to cope with his anxiety.
I choke on my breath, forgetting to speak before I squeeze out, "Well, you see. Uhm, it's kind of hard to explain."
I look towards Alice, eyes pleading for an answer if I could tell them of my immortality or not.
She nods her head assuring me I can tell them, though I'm not sure if they'll believe me.
I take a deep breath, attempting to answer all the questions I'm sure they are going to have even before they ask them, "So uhm, yeah I got bit by a vampire and I survived the change. The entire Cullen family are vampires, so they took me in and I'm living with them. We also found out I'm a witch, so yeah that's a thing. Then I had a breakdown and me and Alice kissed. Long story short, Alice and I are dating."
