A Hybrids Life

Chapter 5

Kat POV

When I woke up the dragon boy was still asleep. I decided it would be a good idea to go find a new stick and maybe locate some food cause I was starving. I climbed gracefully down the tree and started walking deeper into the forest when I reached the ground.

'Would it kill anyone to leave some Starbucks or something around here?' I thought. Despite the fact I was in the middle of no where my stupid habits just HAD to kick in.

I kicked the dirt with the tip of my shoes as I continued through the forest. If I wasn't so hungry this walk would be almost pleasant. The birds were singing cheerfully, the sun was warm in the cloudless blue sky.

I stopped in front of a stream. It seem pretty calm the water wasn't very fast, so it was a clear icy color like most spring fed streams are. I kicked off my shoes and rolled up the legs of my jeans and wadded into the water.

The water was cool against my skin just how I expected it to be. The sand on the bottom of the stream bed was soft, almost like silk against my toes. Little minnows darted around my toes , small bubbles escaping from their cute mouths. 'Maybe I could eat them?' I though. I quickly discouraged this idea. They didn't have much to them , regardless of how many I caught ,if I could catch them that is, it still wouldn't be enough. I sighed and watched the fish continue to dart around.

While I was distracted watching the cute little fish a small figure creeped up from out of the forest. It stopped at the bank and carefully sniffed my shoes and then walked closer to the river. It spotted the fish and had the same idea as me, only it actually tried it.

Behind me I heard I loud splash and turned to see a fluffy gray kitten jump into the water. It splashed around for a second, clearly not knowing how to swim. I quickly scooped the ball of fur out of the river and held it to my chest. I could feel it's heart beating incredibly fast. I started petting it slowly to calm it down. When it's heart beat slowed I decided to take it back with me. I snuggled the soft thing "You sir, I know dub thee Steven the Fluffy!" I said laughing as I gathered my things and started back.

When I got back to the tree dragon dude was no where to be found. "Oh well , that silly head can meet you later Steven!" I continued playing with Steven. I had found a cattail and had fashioned it into a toy of sorts. I'd swing it around and Steven would swat at it. Eventually the two of us grew tired of this pointless game, and I leaned down against the platform. Steven climbed up onto my chest and curled into a ball and dozed off. With the warm ball curled up against me I follow his example, and fall asleep.
