The waggon bounced on the dirt road, shaking and wobbling over potholes, stirring George awake from his slumber.
"Hey, look who's up," Alex's voice pierced his ears in a rush of sound.
George rubbed his eyes, shifting around slowly to see Dream, Sapnap and Alex playing a game of cards.
"You'd think with the amount you sleep that you wouldn't be tired enough to pass out like that," Sapnap jokes, earning a laugh from Alex.
George scoffed, "Shush, I just dozed off is all."
George sits up straight, then looks around, "Where's Karl?"
Alex pointed to the front of the deck, "he's on look-out with Tina. Apparently these parts have bandits, so he's keeping an eye out."
"Oh," he mumbled.
George consumed the scenery, taking in every bit of their surroundings. They were in some sort of a forest area. It was midday, so it wasn't as brooding as it would be at night time.
George scooted over to the others, the wood scraping against his pants, "Don't you guys ever get bored playing this stupid card game."
Alex swung his hands behind his head, smirking, "I'm sorry you're bored George, we all know your favorite game is strip poker, but were just not as sexy and darin–"
"Shut up before I hit you," George's face became red as he crossed his arms.
Dream began wheezing like a tea kettle, Sapnap giggling and carrying on just as much as him, before the wagon came to an abrupt stop.
Sapnap whipped his head around to the front, "everything okay up there!?"
Karl reached over and gave a thumbs up to the crew, "yeah, the horses just wanted some food!"
The group eased back down in sly relief.
"Say, how much longer will we be?" George asked, he was getting impatient if he was honest.
"We're nearly there," Tina called out.
The group all sat in a circle on the back of the wagon, "so, let's review one last time," Alex took the cards, shuffling them around as he spoke.
Everyone cranked their heads and listened closely, George took over, "My adopted father, Phil, and brothers, Tommy and Techno, live in a small home just outside the biggest town in L'manburg. We go there first, I know the way, I'll lead."
Silent agreements echoed their encompass.
"Why is it that we are seeing them again, George? What do they have that we need?" Sapnap slumped his head on Alex's shoulder, Alex not seeming to care much.
George sighed, looking off into the distance of the forest, greens and yellows filling his irises, white dandelions lined the sides of the dirt pathways, and he made wishes to himself.
...
"Honestly, I'm not sure if they'll know anything at all," he admitted.
His mind traveled back to the days when it was just him and Wilbur.
Even then, he was always so reserved.
"My brother was never the one to tell people what he was thinking," George's fingers gripped tightly on the side of the cart.
"Sure, he might have told you something factual every now and then, or given his opinion on why he hated caramel, or why he loved poetry," George felt desolation, he was dejected, "but, the important, down to the core things–he never shared."
