Chapter One : New Kid

Mike looked at the clock, 10:56. He groned quietly, putting his forehead on his desk. He hated Math class. It's not like he wasn't good at math, in fact he was great at it, but for some reason he still hated it. Or maybe he hated the teacher, he wasn't quite sure. But the one great thing about Math class was that he got to be with his Girlfriend, Jane Hopper.
Jane was the cheif of police's daughter- Jim Hopper. She was one of the most popular girls in school, probably because of her dad's power. Jim would probably kill someone if they were mean to Jane in anyway, for fucks sake he almost killed Mike because he lied to her.
Most of the popular girls have wealth and a dad that is a CEO of some dumb corporation. Jane had true kindness and her beauty was natural, she didn't care for all that makeup and hair dying crap.
Mike honestly hated every girl in school except Jane, he told his friends that "She's the one", even though he was only 16, I mean he couldn't even tell her he loved her. But Mike's friends, Lucas and Dustin, told Mike that he didn't have to actually tell her he loves her for her to know. "They just know, dude." Lucas had assured him.
Mike liked to believe Jane loved him back, she hadn't said it either but, maybe he just knew? Mike thought he was lucky in a way though, Jane was his first girlfriend and he already thought he had found his soulmate.
Mike looked over his shoulder, Jane was passing notes with her Best Friend, Max Mayfield.
Max wasn't popular though, she was basically invisible.
Max moved to Hawkins a year ago, and ever since then her and Jane have been best friends. Mike was too much of a coward to admit it but, he was jealous of Max in many ways, I mean Jane spent most of her time with her now so Mike only gets to see Jane at school.
He looked back at the clock, "10:58". Mike didn't even know what the teacher was talking about. The teacher was a total asshole, so Mike just zoned out during every math class most of the time. But he always got Bs and Cs, surprisingly.
Overall, Mike was pretty smart, which was surprising given that he was just as popular as his girlfriend. He wasn't sure how he got to be popular in the first place, he was a total nerd.
But he hid it, because he knew none of the other popular kids were nerds. Mike was the black sheep.
Lucas and Dustin used to be just as nerdy as Mike but they grew out of it..Except Mike. He missed playing D & D every weekend and watching Star Wars until they fell asleep. But he told himself that he was too old for that, "you're sixteen now, you need to forget about all that nerdy stuff" Jane had told him. She wasn't trying to be rude, that's just how she was.
Finally after what felt like hours, the bell rang. Mike grabbed his bag in a hurry and ran out of the classroom and into the crowded hall.
"Slow down, Wheeler!" A teacher yelled from a classroom. He was always in a rush to find Dustin and Lucas.
In fact, Mike was in such a rush he didn't even notice the people around him.
"AH-"
Mike being the oblivious person he was, he ran into a small boy he had never seen before.
"Shit, I'm so sorry-" Mike said holding out his hand, hoping the other boy would take it so he could go find his friends like he intended.
The boy took his hand, not responding to the apology. He wasn't as small when standing up.
He had chestnut brown hair and big hazel eyes.
"I really am sorry.. I'm Mike by the way." He smiled a small smile hoping the other boy would accept his apology.
"I'm Will." Mike definitely didn't know him. They stood there for a good two minutes before Mike finally spoke, "Well, I gotta go..But it was nice meeting you, Will!" Mike smiled, but Will didn't return the smile unfortunately.
And with that, both boys went their separate ways.

"Wheeler!" Lucas called out as he saw Mike appear through all the people, "What the fuck took you so long? Were you making it out with your girlfriend?" Lucas said making kissing sounds, Dustin joined him. "No, she's with Max. Again." Mike said coldly, he really didn't like Max. It didn't help that Lucas was practically in love with her.
"Then what took you so long?" Dustin asked.
"I ran into this kid named Will." Mike shrugged. Lucas and Dustin looked at each other than back at Mike, like he had done something wrong.
"Will Byers?" Dustin asked, "Yeah?" Mike was confused, how did they know who he was and Mike didn't?
"He came from a really abusive household, his dad is a total jackass from what I hear." Lucas said, "He is apparently really fragile, you probably hurt him by accident." Dustin laughed, Lucas chuckled. It was funny to them. Mike hated them sometimes, they could be so inconsiderate and mean.
