A sudden dousing on cold water prompted Kie and JJ to shoot up from where they had laid on the Chateau couch.

Blinking twice, adjusting her eyes, Kie looked down at her soaked clothes before turning a deadly gaze to the culprit.

" Pope?! What the fuck?!" She angrily asked, surprised it wasn't John B. or even Sarah. He stuttered slightly, seeming to regret his decision before an explanation could leave his lips.

" You guys have been out for an entire day." Pope reasoned setting the glass of water on the counter, careful not to turn his back to his angry friends.

JJ huffed, shaking his hair out before running a hand back through it. He then turned to the window to notice the sky was pitch black.

" What time is it, Pope?" JJ interrogated as the boy as he gulped.

" 30 minutes past midnight." He spoke as the drenched pair in front of him groaned and his eyes widened, narrowly missing the crushed beer can Kie slung at him.

" Bro, you never thought that, I don't know, maybe since it's already nighttime it wouldn't have hurt to just leave us till morning instead of drowning us in ice water??" JJ spoke with passive aggressive sarcasm as Kie threw a concurring glare at Pope.

The boy raised his hands in surrender, apologizing before being saved from a second beer can assault as John B. and Sarah came into the kitchen from the hallway.

" What's up guys? Wait- why are you two drenched?" Sarah asked Kie and JJ after observing the scene. Pope not so subtly slid the glass further behind him as John B. tried to hold in a laugh.

Sarah looked over at her boyfriend with confusion before connecting the pieces. She glanced back over to see JJ handing a towel to Kie before using his own to dry off his hair.

A realization struck Sarah as her head whipped back to John B. After a moment of eye conversation he caught on and smirked a little as she mirrored his actions. Pope noticed this out of the corner of his eye and looked at the two with suspicion before letting it go for the time being.

" There's a kegar tonight if you guys are down to go." Sarah told her friends before receiving speedy head shakes.

" Hell no, but I'd be up for some night surfing." Kie replied as the others agreed. Surfing in the moonlight was always calming, though when they first started they were all too scared to wipe out in the dark waters.

Once boards were loaded up, the five climbed into the Twinkie and set off for their favorite surf spot. JJ was the first out of the van before grabbing his board and racing to the water, John B. hot on his tail. The two laughed like little kids as they splashed through the water, Kie and Sarah rolling their eyes in an effort to mask their smiles.

Pope was the next to head out into the waves, Kie hanging back with Sarah as she tried to convince her to give night surfing a try. After a few minutes she agreed, and John B. had made his way back to the shallows, ready to show his girlfriend the ropes.

Taking that as her cue, Kie began paddling her way out, squinting her eyes as she searched for a surfable wave to come her way.

The pogues spent several hours in the water, Sarah having got to the point where she was confident enough to catch a few small waves by herself as her friends cheered her on. JJ and John B. didn't miss an opportunity to team up and critique her form, which earned them splashes from the girls.

Tired out the teens floated on their boards, chatting and laughing as the sun rose on the horizon. JJ slowly sneaked up next to Kie as their boards bobbed in synch.

" How can you still not admit you're a lightweight." JJ spoke up as Kie turned to throw a little glare at him.

" Because I'm not." She argued.

" You were wasted earlier." He continued to make fun of her, enjoying watching her get all bent out of shape. She huffed and crossed the arms, blowing a piece of her curly brown hair from her face.

" You know I wasn't totally out of it..." She began in a quieter, calmer tone, unsure if or how she should continue the sentence. Her face burned slightly as she felt his blue eyes lock on her side profile.

His gaze lead him over her features, her tan skin glowing with the sunrise. Before he could come up with a response, their friends called to them, letting them know they were heading in.

Kie didn't stall as she turned and paddled back to shore, leaving the blonde haired boy to follow her after a moment.
