Guns Out at Sun Down

After another day of summer in the outer banks, the pogues headed off to The Wreck, the popular tourist trap owned by Kiaras family.

Piling out of the twinkie, the group of 5 friends made their way inside, Kiara stopping by the counter to say hi to her dad as an unofficial "clock in", grabbing an apron and setting off to serve tables.

After a few minutes of pleas and lofty promises that most certainly would not be kept, the boys convinced Sarah to be their sugar mom for the night by buying them all dinner.

Rolling her eyes, she tossed them each menus that were stacked in front of her on the table. Contrary to her attitude, she really didn't mind, it's not like she couldn't afford it, and this was going to help Kie, her family, and their staff.

As expected the boys took advantage of the situation and ordered so much food that by the time Kiara and a second waitress (somehow) carried their food out, the table looked like the modern Outer Banks version of The Last Supper painting.

The pogues dug in, Sarah making a comment on how they eat like cavemen before putting some food on her own plate. Only after the initial feeding frenzy calmed down did they start chatting.

" I can't believe it's already been half a year since you guys started dating." Pope said to John B. and Sarah as they smiled at each other.

" No shit. I can hardly remember how he was before becoming a simp, undoubtedly a player, trying to fill the hole in his heart with girls in his bed." JJ commented earning a smack on the arm from John B. and a laugh out of Sarah.

" Dude I think you've mistaken me for you." John B. responded with a nudge to JJ's shoulder, complimented by a double raise of Sarah's eyebrows, the couple on the same wavelength.

Though JJ missed most of this, as his attention and gaze was caught by Kie, who was re-tying her hair up in a ponytail before grabbing the tray full of drinks from the counter, and setting off to a table on the other side of the restaurant.

" I have no idea what you're talking about man." JJ replied as he pulled his eyes from trailing Kie's movements back to his friends faces. Sarah and John B. gave each other a "bs" look while Pope remained passive, internalizing his growing jealousy in hopes of stopping it from surfacing.

JJ was utterly oblivious to the fact that his friends could read how he truly felt about Kie, and perhaps remained oblivious of the magnitude of his own feelings for the girl, having written it off long ago that the two would always have to remain just friends.

" If you guys are all finished with your grand dining venture, I could use some help unloading ingredients from Danny's boat." Kie spoke as she walked over to their table.

At this the boys popped up from their seats, JJ even offering a salute to accompany his "yes ma'am". A glance was passed between JJ and Pope that the girls missed, but John B. understood loud and clear.

This was a competition. Whoever can carry the most bags gets the attention of the girl.

John B. held in a laugh while shaking his head. Though this was a very serious thing among bros, he already had his dream girl, so he had no need to engage in the competition.

What he wouldn't tell them is what he found out from Sarah; "testosterone contests", as she referred to them, really didn't impress any girls, it just made the guys look stupid.

Pope and JJ proceeded to race out to the dock as the girls rolled their eyes and followed with John B.

It started with Pope taking two bags in each hand then JJ one upping him and taking 3. Within minutes, mostly thanks to JJ and Popes ego battle, all of the grocery bags were off the boat and in the kitchen.

And in the end, neither boy "won" as they stumbled into the kitchen of The Wreck with nearly 8 bags each, several of which they ended up dropping, earning them a scolding from Kie and her father. Luckily, the ingredients weren't damaged.

" Honestly what was the point of that? What are you two trying to prove?" Kie asked with a shake of her head. JJ and Pope shared an almost awkward glance as Sarah and John B tried to hold in their laughter from where they stood behind Kie.

" Ya know, nothing wrong with bringing the guns out in a good old fashioned show down between two bros." JJ responded nonchalantly, flexing before slinging a arm around Popes shoulder as the boy nodded in agreement.

Kiara glared at the two in return, but offered a light amused smile that spread on her lips.

" Boys." She said as she turned around and removed her apron, starting to walk out with Sarah as they laughed, leaving the 3 guys to follow after them.
