"Hi." Louis says to Harry when he sees that he is awake.
"Hey babe." Harry responds blinking so his eyes could adjust to the brightness of the room. Sunshine pours through the curtains and onto the two British boys. They both stare into each others eyes and get lost in love. It's the ring of their doorbell that snaps them out of their haze. Louis quickly gets out of bed to answer the door wondering who could be at their house this early in the morning. Harry makes no movement, as he is completely naked under the covers.
Louis makes his way downstairs to the front door. The doorbell continues to ring and Louis is forced to shout,
"COMING!" Harry hears this and chuckles to himself, thinking with a dirty mind. When Louis finally answers the door, he is greeted by a smiling Niall holding a bouquet of flowers.
"Happy anniversary!" Niall says a little bit too loudly for 8:30 in the morning. Louis gives him a questioning look and Niall explains more, "It's your and Harry's three year anniversary! Don't you remember?" Louis looks down at his bare feet, biting his lip because no, he didn't remember and he instantly feels guilty. When Louis looks up he can see that Niall's mouth is wide open. "Oh my god! You forgot?! How could you forget?!" Louis presses his index finger to his lips, signaling for Niall to be quiet because he didn't want Harry to hear.
Meanwhile, Harry sits in bed thinking about what to do for Louis and his' anniversary. They had been together for three years and Harry wanted to do something special for him. Hoping for inspiration, Harry grabs his phone and taps on the Instagram app. As soon as he's on, he goes to his favorite "Larry" account: @whatmakesyou_salute. Scrolling through the pictures on that account, he finds a sweet picture; it's of Louis' last tweet to Harry and under it is a drawn picture in black and white of Harry proposing to Louis. That's when the inspiration hits him; he'll propose to Louis. It all makes perfect sense to Harry, he loved Louis and was never able to imagine his life without him. Harry knew almost instantaneously what he was going to do to make this this most perfect proposal.
Once Niall leaves, Louis goes to the kitchen and decides to make Harry breakfast to make up for not remembering their anniversary. As the pancakes cook, Louis looks at the bouquet of flowers Niall had brought them and chuckled. Niall was crazy about Harry and Louis' relationship for some reason. It was something neither of the boys ever understood. Louis looks at the pancakes he's making Harry and fondly remembers the first time Harry taught him to make pancakes.
While Louis finishes making Harry's pancakes, Harry (now fully dressed) continues with his proposal plan. His ears are on constant alert so if Louis were to walk in, he wouldn't see what Harry was planning. Finally, Louis finishes making the pancakes and makes his way up to their bedroom. Harry hears Louis coming and quickly puts everything away, pretending to be cleaning. Louis walks in and says,
"Happy anniversary!" Harry looks to the door, where Louis was standing and gives him a wide smile that shows his dimples. Louis' heart flutters because he has never gotten used to Harry's smile.
"Aw, babe! You didn't have to do this for me!" Harry says referring to the pancakes.
"It's not that big of a deal and I'm happy to do it for you anyways!" Louis says setting the tray with pancakes on it down on their nightstand. Harry struts over to Louis and wraps his too large arms around Louis. After giving him a kiss, he says,
"I have a surprise for you tonight." Louis, thinking with a dirty mind then says,
"Oh. Really? Well in that case, I have a surprise for you as well." Harry wants to tell Louis that he didn't mean anything sexual by it, but shrugs it off because then Louis would want to know more and he wanted to catch Louis totally off-guard.
-------------------------------
Harry eventually convinces Louis to go out shopping for himself so that he could set up his proposal scene. Louis quickly showers and gets dressed into one of Harry's white t-shirts and a pair of black skinny jeans. Shortly after he is dressed, he gives Harry a long kiss goodbye and heads out. When Louis gets outside he looks longingly at Harry's black Range Rover. He wanted to take his boyfriend's car so badly, but then remembered that the public can't know that they are together.
Harry had it all perfectly mapped out in his head, every last detail of the scene, even to the spot that he was going to kneel down. He wanted it to be perfect for Louis because Louis deserved it. Realizing that he had no ring to propose to Louis with, he calls the only person he knows that would buy a ring in a flash, no questions asked.
"Hey Haz!" Niall says cheerily through the phone. The Irish lad always seemed to be happy in Harry's eyes.
"Hey, I need you to do me a favor and I can pay you back when you get here. Are you free at the moment?"
"Anything for you Harry! What's up?" Harry feels relieved when he hears that and tells Niall what he needed,
"Ok, I need you to remain calm when you hear this." Niall nods his head even though he knows Harry can't see him. "I need you to pick out an engagement ring for Louis and bring it to me really soon. I'm proposing to him tonight." Niall's phone clatters on the ground, as he was so shocked to hear this.
"Uh, oh my god. It's not even happening to me and I'm freaking out. Wow! Ok, I'll be there in about an hour!" Niall informs Harry excitedly. They both hang up and Harry starts to cook their meal: baked chicken wrapped in parma ham, stuffed with mozzarella and a side of homemade mash. While Harry elegantly makes their meal he also sets up the table they would eat their meal at. He sets up the table in the middle of one of the many gardens they had. José, their gardener would be furious but Harry thought it would be worth it. The forecast for that night was supposed to be clear and around 73 degrees with a slight breeze, almost too perfect.
Just as Harry came inside from putting their meal on the table, Louis was pulling into their driveway. Harry quickly grabbed a bottle of Febreeze and sprayed it every where to mask the scent of what Harry had cooked. He wanted even the food to be a surprise for Louis. Carelessly throwing the spray back under the sink, Harry manages to get the door for Louis, who was carrying about six bags all from different stores.
"I see you got yourself something." Harry says not believing the perfect timing of Louis' arrival.
"Heh, yah you could say that. But, I did however get you something." Louis says passing Harry to go to the living room. Harry's heart jumps because Louis always got him the best things. Louis has Harry sit down on the couch so that Louis could show him what he got him. The other reason he wanted Harry to sit down is so that Louis would feel tall for once. The couch that they had picked out when they first moved into that house was perfect for Harry because it was tall enough that his legs weren't touching his chest when he sat down. Whenever Louis sat down on their couch, his feet would dangle a little bit but he didn't mind because it made Harry happy.
Now, Louis was standing in front of Harry holding a new black button-down shirt and asking Harry if he liked it. When Harry's eyes met the shirt, his jaw dropped. It may've been plain, but Harry loved it. He thought about wearing the shirt for the proposal tonight but Harry had already picked out his outfit. Louis felt relieved when he saw Harry looking at the shirt. He almost got jealous because of all the attention the shirt was getting. Louis pulled out a few more items including a black pair of briefs that Louis thought would look good on Harry.
Harry had been so distracted by the new clothes Louis got him that he completely forgot Niall was bringing the ring. Nervously, Harry looked at his watch and saw that Niall was a few hours late. It was only when the doorbell rang that Harry remembered. His heart dropped and he shot up to get the door. The living room had a clear shot of the front door so Harry asked Louis to put his new clothes on their bed.
"Do I look like your maid?" Louis asked rhetorically and crossed his arm giving a certain sassy face.
"Please?" Harry asked again, this time giving him puppy dog eyes and putting his hands together. Louis gave a huff and headed upstairs.
Harry ran to get the door and on the way tried to think up an excuse to tell Louis about who was at the door. It was nearly 7:30 in the evening and Harry could not wait any longer to propose to Louis. Nervously, he answered the door to an emotional Niall. Immediately, Harry pulled Niall into a hug asking him what was wrong.
"I'm--" he sniffed. "I'm just so happy for you two!" Harry's heart melted when he said that. "Sorry about the time, it was just so hard to pick out the right ring. I have to go now." Niall finished handing Harry the bag with the ring in it and putting his Ray Bans back on even though it wasn't all that bright out. Harry shut the door as soon as Niall turned away. Once he shut the door, he could hear Louis' bare footsteps coming closer to the living room. Panicking, he looked inside the bag and grabbed the box that had the ring in it. He shoved the box in the front of his pants and put the bag in the back of his pants. When Louis came down he asked what that was about.
"Ehhhm, just the mailman." He said more of a question than a statement.
"Did the mailman give you any mail, or just wanted to have some tea?" Louis asked sarcastically. Thinking of the only place he could get privacy he makes up an excuse so he could get the uncomfortable bag and box out of his trousers.
"I would love to talk about this, but I have got to wee really badly!" Harry didn't wait for a response and ran to the bathroom. Running with those items in his pants wasn't the most comfortable thing to do, but drastic times call for drastic measures.
Harry finally made it to the bathroom and once he closed the door he immediately unbuckled his pants. He stood there in the middle of the bathroom at first and enjoyed the relief and freedom at crotch now had. He then carefully took the black velvet box out of his pants and opened the box. The ring took his breath away, literally, for a few seconds. It was a silver band with a thick blue strip across the top. The blue was the same color as Louis' birth gem and reminded Harry of his favorite eyes: Louis'. As Harry stared at the ring he realized that he had no place to put it until dinner. He then also realized he had no place to hide the bag that the ring came in. Since Louis had already showered that morning he threw the bag inside the shower and reluctantly put the ring back into the crotch of his pants.
When Harry came back down stairs, he saw Louis sitting on the couch playing on his phone. Louis looked up at Harry as he rounded the corner into the living room and said,
"Styles, you look big." Referring to his crotch. Harry blushes and is at a loss for words. Continuing on, Louis then says, "You need any help?" Harry is now standing there in front of his boyfriend trying to come up with something to say back. When he tries to say something he just stutters and stares ahead. Harry wants to say 'yes' but then remembers that he had the ring in his crotch. Totally averting from the topic at hand, Harry says,
"I laid out an outfit for you and I want you to put it on. It's on our bed." Louis looks at Harry questioningly at first then, again with his dirty mind, says,
"We don't usually do dress up but I suppose it is a special event." Harry looks at Louis with a 'really?' look on his face. Lou then shrugs and walks back up to the bedroom and asked if Harry was changing.
"I will after you, you're being quite a creep tonight." Harry winks teasingly. Louis continues his strut up the stairs and Harry texts Niall,
"Sorry I didn't get a chance to pay you when you got here. Will pay you tmmrw tho. Thanks again x." While he was on his phone he decided to tweet something alluding to Larry. Louis came back into the living room and Harry almost drooled because of how good Louis looked in his outfit. Harry had picked out the suit he wore to his mum's wedding because that was his favorite tuxedo on him. That day, Louis actually styled his hair so it topped the outfit off nicely. Louis looks down at himself and then asks Harry,
"Why do I have to wear this?"
"Because I said so." Harry answers with a smile and continues, "I'm off to change now, I'll be back soon." Louis chuckles as Harry jogs back up to their bed room to change into his outfit. While Harry changed, Louis wandered around their kitchen. He smells something familiar but can't quite put his finger on it. He looks at the sink and reminisces all the moments they have had together in the past three years. One moment that stuck out in his mind was the first time they said 'I love you' to each other. They were both in two separate hotel rooms, as were all of the boys. They had been officially dating for about five and a half months and they hadn't gotten to spend any time together that day. Louis had been the one to call Harry and it was about four in the morning in New York but was really nine in the morning in England and they had only been in America for about two days. Harry had always found it easy to adjust to the time difference no matter what country they were in but Louis found it very difficult.
Harry picked up the phone and was comforted to hear Louis' voice but his heart also jumped because he was so hopelessly in love. They had a very deep conversation and Harry randomly hung up in the middle of their conversation. Louis got very irritated but couldn't stay mad for long when he heard a hotel key sliding into his lock. A sleepy Harry appeared in front of Louis and eventually next to him in bed. Harry wrapped his arms around Louis' small waist and they both felt like they were finally home. Out of no where, Harry said,
"I love you. You're my BooBear. Please never leave me." When Louis heard that, a huge wave of different emotions hit him. It was a mix of pity, happiness, sadness, and excitement. A few tears left Louis' eyes as he said what he'd been wanting to say for ages,
"I love you, too. I promise I'll never leave you." Shortly after, Harry fell back asleep and Louis sat in his arms crying out of happiness because he knew that he had Harry for the rest of his life.
Louis' thoughts are interrupted by his boyfriend clumsily stumbling into the kitchen. Louis looks at his boyfriend fondly and comes to the conclusion that he was the sexiest man on the planet. Harry pulls out one of his head scarves and tells Louis to come to him. Louis' heart starts beating faster out of excitement because he knew that Harry had set up something special but didn't quite know what it was. Very nervously, Harry wraps the scarf around his soon to be fiancé's eyes. He then gets in front of him and waves his hand a few times to make sure Louis couldn't see. Louis bites his lip so he doesn't start smiling weirdly as Harry guides both of them out the back door. Harry's heart flutters nervously as the table comes into sight and with his free hand he pats the box in his chest pocket to make sure he has it. He is reassured when he feels the box through his tuxedo jacket. They had been walking for about three minutes and both Louis and Harry could barely breathe because they were both so excited. No one had said anything while they were walking because they both had so much going on in their heads.
"Okay," Harry finally said. "We're here but I need you to keep the scarf on for like a few more seconds, okay? I'll take it off." Louis stands there smiling and nods his head still silent. With every movement Harry got more and more nervous because he knew that with every movement he made, it came one second closer to the proposal. With shaky hands, Harry took the cover off of the food that sat on the table and lit the candle in the middle of the table with Louis' lighter. He took a step back and admired the set up. Putting the lighter inside his jacket, he tried to swallow the lump in his throat but it was nearly impossible. Walking towards Louis, Harry's life flashed before his eyes. He reached to take the scarf of his beautiful boyfriend's face. Harry quickly stepped to the side so Louis could look at the set up. Louis gasped and put his small hands up to his mouth, tears pooling in his eyes.
"You didn't have to do this Harry." Louis managed to choke out. He hugged Harry like they hadn't hugged in ten years. When Harry reluctantly pulls out of the hug, he pulls out a chair for Louis. Once he sat down, trying not to step on any flowers, he took a look at the food and said, "Harry. The meal." Harry nodded knowingly and gave him a cocky smile. Harry cut a piece of the chicken and put it on Louis' plate with a scoop of the mash. Louis just sits there in awe of everything surrounding him, a perfect boyfriend, a perfect garden, a perfect meal, and a perfect night.
For the next ten minutes they talk about random things and Harry brings up their future and what he thinks it might entail.
"I don't know, I just can see you and I sitting on the porch together like 40 years from now just watching the sunset and saying, 'Hey, you remember when we were in that band? Yah that was pretty cool.'" Louis laughs at this and takes another bite of his mash. Harry decides that he's had enough of waiting and puts his napkin on the table, getting up. Louis looks at him questioningly and that's when Harry kneels down, heart nearly jumping out of his throat. Louis goes pale and his eyes gloss over with tears.
"Louis, so like I have been thinking about doing this for a long time but I figured today would be a pretty good day to do this. So I know most couples meet like in a coffee shop or in the mall but I think the way we met resembles our love; strange. I don't think we could be together if our love wasn't strange because that's what keeps things interesting." Harry fumbles for the ring in his jacket as he continues to look Louis in his eyes, "Now, Tommo, I know that you most definitely my one and only. It would be impossible to try to fit how much I love you into words, there just aren't enough. So, anyways," He continues pulling the box out and opening it up. "Will you be my one and only forever?" Louis' eyes dart at the ring and Harry back and forth. He starts weeping and says yes as Harry puts the ring on his finger. They both stare at each other, now standing up and Harry whispers into Louis' ear, "Now kiss me you fool." They keep a passionate kiss going while both now crying. Harry's hands hold Louis close to him as if he was afraid of losing Louis to the air because he was so thin. Louis couldn't believe what had just happened and kept replaying the scene over and over in his head. Suddenly, the worst thought hit him, he couldn't wear the ring in public.
"Harry," Louis said against his lips. "You have to wear the ring, I can't wear it." Harry realized this as well and sighed, still holding Louis but their heads were a bit farther apart.
"That's fine Lou. I don't need the whole world to know for me to be happy. I just need to know that you will be in my life forever and that makes me plenty happy." Harry said with a reassuring smile.

The End.
