ARES
"I don't understand why we need this much food" I told Madi as I pushed the cart down the aisle "Considering that we're having a barbecue."
"It's not just any barbecue" she countered, grabbing a big jar of mayonnaise and depositing it into the car "It's a "Farewell...It's time to go back to your own home" type of barbecue, Not to mention the first time I'll see my parents again since having Markos."
"So you're stress buying?" I teased.
"Yes" she answered distractedly, looking down at the list on her phone "I just want everything to be perfect."
Mars babbled happily in his carrier harness that was currently strapped to my chest.
He snuggled into me closer when I softly caresses his tiny head.
"You do realize that only our families will show up to this BBQ, don't you?" I said steering the cart after her "You shouldn't have to go all out for like fifteen people."
She whirled on me, her pretty eyes lighting ablaze "Whether it be five people or five hundred people, I still want to give them the best I have to offer."
I caught up to her and snagged her hand "And you will...even if this event doesn't go as planned -"
"Shhh!" she shushed me, eyes widening "Don't say that! You'll jinx me!"
I laughed at her superstitious nature and tugged her towards the check out line.
"But I'm not done shopping!" she protested "I have twenty more items I need to pick up."
"I'm calling a time out" I said, loading the groceries on the conveyor belt "Maybe after lunch you'll see you don't need a million dishes to impress people who already adore you."
She glared at me, her mouth skewing up in a frown.
I just winked at her and kissed her cheek.
Mars squealed in agreement.

We were at a little Café outside of the town boarder and I couldn't help but grin in delight, content at how right it felt being with my Mate and little pup.
The rightness only solidified what I knew all along.
Madi and I belonged together, regardless of her past.
We were meant for each other no matter what life threw at us.
Madi snapped her fingers in front of me with a mischievous grin.
