A loud piercing noise startled Acheronawake, and he groaned, pulling his pillow over his head in an attemptto quiet the alarm. Accalia leaned over to her night stand to turnher phone's alarm off. She felt his arm circle around her waist andpull her back towards him just as she unplugged her phone.
"Hey!" she said, laughing.
"I'm cold and you're warm," hesaid, his voice muffled by the pillow. She lifted it up to see hishandsome face. "It's too early," he grumbled when their eyes met.
"I have to help my siblings getready for school."
"Now?"
"Yes, if they want a decentbreakfast and a packed lunch."
Acheron groaned again and moved thepillow back against his face. Accalia pat his chest. Poor guy wasnever a morning person.
"You can sleep in some more, I'll beback to check on you."
"Mmhmm," he said tiredly.
Damn, was it hard pulling herself outof bed. Nothing sounded better than a day spent in his arms. He'dcradled her like he was meant to hold her, and his ancient, earthysmell made her feel safe and peaceful. He wasn't wrong, either. Itwas pretty chilly in her room and the prospect of sharing body heatwas incredibly appealing. She stepped out of her room, closing herdoor behind her. She walked to both of her sisters' bedrooms to checkthat they were up before heading downstairs. Accalia popped into theliving room to see her father still sleeping. She let him rest, andstepped into the kitchen to start breakfast.
"What are we feeling today?" sheasked no one. "Pancakes I think," she answered, and fished outthe ingredients. She whisked together the batter, and chopped somefresh fruit while the pancakes cooked. She was just placing the foodon the kitchen table when her sisters Natalia and Kleio camedownstairs. Natalia had just turned eighteen and was in her senioryear of high school, and Kleio was almost sixteen and in sophomoreyear.
"Aw, yes, strawberries!" Kleiosaid when she saw the fruit. She slid into her usual chair and beganserving herself. She looked over her shoulder at Accalia, and said,"Thanks, Kae!" Natalia nodded in agreement while she filled herown plate.
"You're welcome guys. Eat up."Accalia turned her attention back to food prep as she readied somehealthy lunches for her sisters. She placed them on the counter wherethe girls could grab theirs easily, and checked on their father inthe living room. He'd awoken due to her sisters' activity, so shegreeted him good morning, and came back to fix him a plate and bringhis medication to him.
"How are you feeling today, Papa?"she asked, setting the plate and his pill case on the nearby TVdinner tray.
"Ah, same as usual, Pumpkin. Stiffand sore. You made pancakes?"
"Sure did. I'll grab you some waterso you can take those meds easier. Eat up."
Kaden smiled to her as she left forthe kitchen. She returned quickly with a tall glass of water, andpicked up the remote to turn on the television.
"Food Network?" she asked, amusement on her face. Her father was awful in the kitchen, but anyshow that had to do with prepping food was his favorite to watch.
"Hey, people like watching Bob Ross. This is my Bob Ross, except you can eat the final product."
"Not if it's in a televisionscreen."
"Let me dream," he laughed, andAccalia shook her head at him, a smile on her face.
"If you need anything, Papa, give mea holler."
