"Hey, mom, I found the reminder for cousin April's wedding."
"Oh? When is it again?"
"Next Saturday. We'll have to leave Wednesday in order to be there for the rehearsal dinner."
"Right, I remember you talking about that. We won't be able to go on any jobs while you're away." I said from the couch.
Rachel sat in the dining room with her mother while Michael and I sat on the couch. Well, more he sat on the couch while I was laying on it with my legs drapped over his thighs. There was a boring movie on tv, more background noise than anything else. Michael looked at me sympathetically due to the hint of sadness in my voice.
"Maybe not, come look at this."
I climbed over the back of the couch, making Michael groan as I hit his arm. He got up to follow me, rubbing his arm. Resting my chin on her head, Rachel pulled up a news website.
"'Fourth Mysterious Couple Suicide'?"
"Yeah, according to this article, every one of the victims were part of a 'perfect' relationship. But it was like the all of a sudden, love at first sight stuff. Then, three days later, they commit suicide. All in the same town, the same town my cousin's wedding is in. I'm afraid whatever's causing this will hurt my cousin. So, how do you guys feel about going to a wedding?"
"Really!? Yay!"
"You really want to go to a wedding, don't you Rina?" Amy teased.
"Of course she does. She loves the idea of human affection. Angels aren't really affectionate, and Rina enjoys it." Michael said.
"Shut up! Getting married is like becoming mates, just less permanent. It's a wonderful thing."
The realization of the comparison began to spread across his face. He was now seeing how big a deal this was. Rachel's dad walked into the room and the air immediately tensed slightly. He had stabbed me the first day we met and Michael was far from over it.
"Another job? You know, I don't think I've ever been on a job with you guys."
"You know I'd love to dad, but I can get my angels all agitated. Michael is quick to anger, especially since you kinda stabbed Rina-"
"Didn't 'kinda'!" Michael growled.
"But he'll calm down when Rina does. But Rina's is a pain to calm down. All the bribing and food. If it's okay with Rina, you're probably good to go."
"As long as he doesn't stab me again, change my music, or steal my food, I think we'll be good."
I looked towards Michael. He squared his shoulders and sighed.
"If it's fine with Rina, I guess it's fine with me."
"Welcome aboard, dad."
"So Michael, you think what I'm thinking? About the case?"
"Cherub gone rouge? Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It's very likely, all signs point to it."
"Cherub?" Rachel questioned.
"They're what humans call cupids. You guys decided to strap on the Roman god's name onto them and give them arrows. They're actually a type of angel, lower than your average angels though. And they don't use arrows, they just have to touch two people. They match up whoever Heaven tells them to." I explained.
"Oh, wow, I didn't know there was more than one kind of angel."
"There are several. Archangels, the Seraph, Cherubim, Rit Zen, and your everyday angels." Michael said.
