"Shh. It's okay, everything is alright." Rachel said, holding the crying baby Rina.
But Rina refused to quiet down. Even after we cleaned her up and got to the motel room. Rachel paced the room, holding her and murmuring soft words in hopes of comforting the sobbing child.
"Michael, this isn't working." Rachel said, looking at me pleadingly.
"I can't sense anything wrong with her. Maybe she's just upset about her surroundings?"
"Hold her for a moment while I look up ways to settle her."
Rachel held Rina out to me and I surged forward. I didn't know what it was, but I had become extremely possessive since Rina had changed. I held the little Rina close, gentle rocking her as Rachel went to her laptop. Rina sobs quickly turned into little hiccups as she settled down, eventually falling asleep in my arms.
"Well, we could have solved that problem a lot sooner." Rachel sighed.
"Do you know of any ways to reverse this?"
"No, but I'm certain we can find the answer in the Library of Heaven. How would you like to see the angel's part of Heaven?"
"Is that allowed?"
"I'm an archangel and if anyone makes a big deal out of it, I'll take the blame anyway."
"And when you say 'the angel's part of Heaven', what do you mean?"
"Heaven isn't a single place. A new one is created everytime, custom to each human soul. It's like a replay of all of that soul's happiest moments in their lives."
"That amazing. Do you think I'll be able to meet Gabriel? Rina talks about him quite a bit."
"I have no doubt." I said, biting back the horrible feeling bubbling in my chest. "We should get some rest, I have a feeling she's not going to be the easiest to care for."

Thankfully, Rina slept the whole night without getting fussy. She slept curled up on my chest. Rina only began to stir when Rachel came into the motel room carrying a bag marked with a baby clothes store logo. I carried her to the kitchen table, rubbing her eyes and yawning the whole way."I got her some proper baby clothes. Tshirt, baby jeans, baby converses, and a little jacket."
Snapping my fingers, the clothes in the bag now replaced Rina's. She giggled and pulled on a lock of my hair.
"Hungry!" She complained in her toddler slur.
"Rina, do want to get pancakes down the street?" Rachel asked her.
"No! Waffles!"
"Waffles it is." I chuckled.

"Aww, she's so cute. Is she yours?" The waitress asked, looking between Rachel and I."No, she's my niece." Rachel said, quickly coming up with a lie. "It's the first time I've had her overnight and my friend here is great with kids."
"Oh, okay. So, what can I get you?"
"I'll get the special with coffee." Rachel answered.
"Waffles!"
"She'll get waffles and apple juice. Just coffee for me."
The waitress left with a nod. Rina busied herself with coloring on the kid's menu. But I could tell it wasn't really holding her interest. So I wasn't really surprised when she started climbing into my lap.
"Wings! Wings!"
"What? What about wings, Rina?"
"You."
