When Yuna thought about what her children with Tidus would look like, she'd always imagined they'd have his gorgeous blue eyes, maybe her mocha-colored hair...definitely his cute dimples! And they'd be the perfect mix of her beloved's sunny disposition and her tranquil nature. Since learning of her pregnancy, she'd thought about it several times a day and couldn't wait to meet their perfect little creation. Now, that may never happen.

It was amazing how quickly life could change. One minute she was in the temple, finally making some progress with the investigation into her paranormal experiences. And in the next, she was back in an infirmary, lying on a gurney with Tidus by her side, anxiously waiting to hear news about their unborn child.

Tidus, thankfully, had always been fast on his feet, and managed—with the aid of their friends—to get Yuna over to the infirmary in record time. Once inside, the doctors and healing mages swarmed the ex-summoner then hustled to get her into an exam room when they learned she was pregnant. The pain had been so intense, she couldn't see straight. Everything had grown fuzzy and then went dark.

Sadly, that's all Yuna remembered up until a few moments ago, when she woke to be greeted by those depressing white walls she'd grown to despise. Tidus wasn't such a welcoming sight either, mind you. He sat hunched in a chair next to her, brows knit together, and eyes glistening with unshed tears—a despondent picture unbefitting of the man she loved, who'd been known for his boundless optimism and carefree spirit.

Throat dry, she swallowed hard, and adjusted herself on the gurney before shooting her fiancé a timid glance. She was afraid to ask the question that hung between them. Afraid her worse fears would become reality.

Being as perceptive as Tidus was, he must've sensed her trepidation and offered her a weak smile in return. "We don't know anything yet. We're still waiting."

"How long was I out?"

"I dunno. An hour maybe. That's how long you've been in this room anyway. Before that I'm not sure. They said you were stable and would wake soon." Leaning back in his seat, Tidus raked a hand through his wispy hair, huffed then stared up at the ceiling, clearly warring with his emotions. "I should've trusted my gut and never stopped. I should've taken you straight out those doors."

Oh no, not this again. That man of hers had developed a rather nasty guilt complex in recent days. "Stop! This isn't your fault!"

"If you lose..." Tidus blinked back tears and sniffled loudly. "I dunno what I'll..." he stopped short again, squeezing his hands into tight fists. Then without warning, he launched out of his seat and kicked over the empty chair beside him, sending it crashing against the wall, and Yuna's stomach plummeting to the floor. "What the hell's taking so long!" he hollered. "Why haven't we heard anything!?"

Just then, the door opened and a middle-aged woman with pixie-cut, auburn hair stepped into the room, brandishing the traditional white robes all Bevelle doctors wore and holding a medical chart in her hand. "Is everything, okay? I heard shouting."

"I'm sorry. My fiancé is very...emotional right now." Yuna skewered him with a glance, and Tidus seemed to get the message from how he slunk back to his chair in silence then plopped down into the seat, moping like a child who'd just been scolded.

"I understand. You both must be anxious to know what happened. My name is Doctor Anise. And before we discuss anything further, I'd just like to assure you both that your baby is doing just fine."

The tension in Yuna's shoulders eased, eyes welling up with joyful tears at the same time as her fiancé gave her hand an elated squeeze. "Really!? Our baby is going to be, okay?"

The doctor offered them a reassuring smile and nodded. "Yes, your baby is very healthy and unaffected by your episode."

Episode!? No. There's no way that could've been... "I'm sorry...?"
