Seralina POV
We had been planning this for years; to take down the Council from the inside, once and for all. After confirming our suspicions that the breeding camp was funded by the Council. The lies and deceit that they had us filling these poor initiates heads hurt daily, and now potentially it's all ruined because of an angsty little she wolf.
DuVaunt stepping in was the initiative we needed after Marcel left, he was finally here to help us continue our work. I wish they had included me in the other half of their plan but alas I would never understand his fight.
DuVaunt was a man driving others with fear, he had to in his position with the Council. Marcel could have never pushed the novices this hard with the trials, I hoped to make them easy so we could have saved more. But it would have drawn suspicion if we had ended with more graduates then the previous year.
My heart wept for the 16 students we laid to rest with my magic and the assistance of Blossom's we were able to bring back 7, but it wasn't enough, it was never enough.
While I was growing up I would ask Marcel, 'why do we follow the Council?' And he would always respond with the same 4 words, 'we have no choice.' No choice.
Until 5 years ago when his little shewolf came into the picture, he refused to allow her within the grasp of the Council, he promised he wouldn't. But after Loey and the breeding camp ordeal he decided keeping her close was the best port of call. I'd like him to tell me that now.
DuVaunt slammed his fist on the desk as he was writing, clearing my mind I crossed my arms waiting for my next order.
He spun a piece of paper in my direction raising a thick eyebrow quizzically. Briefly I stepped forward from my position on the wall looking at the note, 'everything set for tomorrow?'
Tomorrow, the graduation ceremony, the day of freedom, we would finally infiltrate the Council and cripple them. Giving a curt nod taking a step back repositioning myself against the wall once again.
I would continue my roll assisting the novices signing them all in, including the others from surrounding areas. Victor still hadn't arrived and I knew at least 3 of Council guards were on the side of the Allegiance. A group of freedom fighters, we lived mostly hidden by the fae who try not to interfere with the Council, especially after the genocide on their species I wouldn't doubt it.
I had one more pawn to put into play this evening, Ren, although he had been an amazing distraction, now I had to utilise him.
My eyes snapped up to DuVaunt, he was keeping everything together surprisingly well. His stoic nature kept him completely safe and guarded from others trying to survey his mind.
As if noticing my eyes digging into him, he looked towards me with the same stone expression, his eyes darkened. I tilted my head in confusion his wolf was trying to get out, he was worried about Chelsea. I wasn't jealous of this little she wolf she couldn't control the bonds they had but it did distract them, DuVaunt less so.
"You should go check on her," I said lowly as he rolled his eye looking back to his paperwork, he was being stubborn and we needed him at his best for tomorrow, "you're uneasy, let's try to rest tonight."
I tried to sound kind, soft even but it came across assertive and stern like I was talking to a child. I looked down placing my hands on my stomach hopefully you will be brought into a new world, where you are free to do what you want.
DuVaunt dropped his pen raking his hands through his hair, "you're right, let's call it a night."
Giving a tight lipped smile I followed him out of the office and headed to my apartment, I was on the 3rd level, it wasn't huge it was small. It was the perfect size for me and potentially another, I groaned walking up the steps. So many stairs in this damn building, I had to reserve my power as much as I could for tomorrow.
