Alaric

On my way to her house, I was still debating whether whatever I was about to do was right or not but the moment I laid eyes on her, I knew right away that no mistakes were committed.

Her dark brown hair cascading down her back, her red dress elegantly wrapped around her body, she was sublime. Eveline Mione, a woman of real beauty, like an angel.

Her haunted brown eyes stared right at mine as her father lead me to the dining room and I took the seat facing hers. No matter how much she was smiling, those beautiful eyes of hers were betraying her. They were empty, drained out of the will to always pretend to be happy. They looked broken and I knew exactly why.

This beautiful woman I was about to marry, should have walked down the aisle to my best friend, my brother, Neill O'brien since two years ago. But instead, in a few weeks she would walk down the aisle to marry me, and bear my name with hers. Fate was indeed cruel and unfair.

To her, what differed me from Neill was that he was the man she loved wholeheartedly and was ready to be his. And me, I was the man she was not compromised to marry without really knowing who I really was.

I didn't know how to love. In the world I was born into, love held no importance. The only things I was taught were how to conquer, rule and destroy mercilessly. Loving someone was not part of what I was born for but now I doubted it.

How could we marry each other without loving each other?

"So what's your interest Alaric, apart from what we know already?" Her mother asked, dragging my attention away from Eveline.

I thought Rowan already briefed them about me but apparently they only knew what I was, what everybody knew about me. Alaric Donovan, the youngest and second most powerful Underboss of The Five Points, just after Richard Mione.

In fact, this was one of the reasons of this marriage. The more the power, the highest the rank.

"I have a passionate attraction towards old paintings. I love collectioning them and try to figure out the meaning of those paintings."

"So you mean that you love to exhaust your brain cells, trying to figure out the paintings of a late artist while you could easily find the stories on the internet?!" The girl beside Eveline suddenly spoke, confusion clear on her face causing Eveline to choke on her water.

"Yeah, kind of."

"So then you will find it easier to figure out the history while Eveline would play the piano in the background-"

"Elena, shut up." Eveline cut her off and glaring at her while her mother apologised to me.

"Excuse my youngest daughter, she's-"

"She's always like that, silly and funny." Eveline finally spoke to me, a genuine smile on her face.

She still plays the piano. Perfect.

"It's okay, I don't mind."

"You better." Elena pointed her fingers at me while Eveline watched me softly, as if she wanted to admire me as much as I was admiring her.

The dinner went on and Elena kept annoying her sister, keeping the atmosphere alive but Eveline barely spoke. She would shy away everytime I would say something and I found it endearing of her to be shy of a man she would soon be married to. And this was what made her even more beautiful.

She was soft and calm, made to treasure and cherish that I doubted I would even be able to bring myself to hurt her. I was a man who fed on pain and misery on a daily basis but I couldn't imagine hurting her or feed on her misery. A feeling of protectiveness and possessiveness washed over me and I couldn't fight it.
