It was raining cat and dogs the next morning, Elliot called in sick and stayed in bed, I didn't know if he was actually sick or he just wanted to skip school. But whatever it was his mother believed him, mostly because it was raining and she didn't have the strength to drive them to the bus stop. But Edmund insisted on going to school, saying he has something 'important' to deal with.
It was funny seeing how devoted he was to going to school, he even wore a big yellow rain coat and yellow rain boots. I teased him by calling him the banana man, Since Aunty wouldn't take him to the bus stop, Kenneth drove him.
"It's really pouring out there." Aunty said looking outside the kitchen window.
I nodded, dropping the mop stick I was using to mop the kitchen tiles. "Elliot is still in bed?" Aunty asked turning to look at me. I nodded again, she sighed "please go check on him Nicole dear." "Okay." I answered dropping the mop stick and headed out the kitchen.
My relationship with Elliot had always been quite Rocky, I actually thought after I took the books to him he'd lighten up Abit. But obviously I was thinking too high because immediately he returned from school he didn't even spare me a glance.
I gently knocked on their bedroom door. "Come in," he said inaudibly. I barely even heard him, I walked in closing the door gently behind me. "Hey, how are you feeling?" I asked, when I saw him covered in his duvet, "barely alive." He muttered.
I rolled my eyes, "don't be dramatic Elliot. You're not dying," I reached out to touch his forehead, which he surprisingly didn't swat my hand away. "Oh Lord! You're burning up!" I shrieked drawing my hand back immediately.
He moaned loudly using the duvet to cover his head, "I might as well be dying." He muttered. "Stop saying that. You're just coming down with a fever you're not dying for God's sake.""And how would you know that? " He muttered again, not bothering to bring his head out. I don't know if this sickness was messing with his head. "Stay put. Am calling aunty." I told him, "yes... Hurry up and tell mother that her dear son is lying on the verge of his own dea-" " oh for Christ sake, just keep quiet Shakespeare." With that I headed downstairs.
Dramatic much?
I met aunty sitting on the dinning, typing on her laptop. I didn't want to disturb her but this was important. "Aunty?" I called out, she looked up at me, "how's he doing?" She asked. "Not so well, his body is burning up and he won't stop talking about dying." She shut her laptop faster than I could process it when she heard the last sentence. "What?" She sighed getting up and climbing up the stairs..
