Bothered

Kendo had asked you to sit with her and your other Class 1B 'friends' during lunch today. You agreed, only because she promised not to let them annoy you.

"I wonder when Shinsou is coming back from his mission." TetsuTetsu says. "Yeah it's kind of weird not having him here to annoy." Monoma whines. You look at them weird. "What mission? I thought he was visiting family?" The two boys look at each other. "What?" they say in unison.

You look at Kendo. "What mission is he on?" She plays in her food. "Something Mr.Aizawa arranged for him. Apparently, it's the real deal and we can't contact him for a little while." You sit up straight. "What? Then how are we supposed to know that he's okay?" She shakes her head. "Oh don't worry. The pros are looking out for him and Aizawa gets updates." You get up and grab your bag. "I gotta go. See you guys later."

On your way out, you bump into somebody. "Sorry!" you shout, but keep it moving without turning back. You hurry to get to Aizawa's classroom. "Dad!" you yell, bursting in. He was having his lunch break with Mic. "Y/n what—" You interrupt. "Is it true that Shin is on a mission?!" He puts his sandwich down. "Yes? Why?" You frown. "It's been an entire week since I've seen him.. He told me he was going to visit family." Aizawa stands up and holds you by your shoulders. "Listen. You have nothing to worry about. I got an update a few days ago. Shinsou is fine." You shake your head. "That was a few days ago.. What about now?" He sighs. "I'm waiting on another call. I'll let you know."

He was well aware of how you felt about these things. "Y/n, I know you worry. But he'll be back very soon. In one piece. I'm sure of it." He waits for your response. You give a nod and retreat towards the door. "See you at home!" Mic calls.

You look back. "Can you not be home later? I'll probably let Kaminari come over again." He acts hurt. "Are you embarrassed of us?!" You roll your eyes. "Just you." You walk out the door. "Bye." You go on with your day, keeping Shinsou in mind.

During the next class, you find out who you bumped into. "Hey, Y/n." Sero says from his seat. You look over. "What?" He sits on his desk. "You okay? You looked like you were in a rush earlier." You stare at him. "What are you talking about?" He tries to jog your memory. "In the cafeteria? You weren't exactly running but you were like speed-walking out of there.." You get it. "Oh so it was you I bumped into?" He nods. "Yep." You rub your eye and put your head down. "Sorry."

Mina starts being nosey. "So.. where were you headed?" You don't lift your head. "Aizawa's room." "Ooo why?" You sit up. "Had to ask him something." Kiri cocks his head. "You seem tired." You give a thumbs up, staring at the wall. Deku turns in his seat to face you. "Is something bothering you? Maybe we can help?" You shake your head. "Forget about it. Nothing you can do about it anyway."

Denki appears next to you. "You don't know that. What's up?" You knew they'd keep pressing you. "Tch. Fine. Someone I care about has been away doing hero work for a week and I'm only just finding out about it because I thought he was visiting family."

They all murmur in understanding. "I'm sure if he was allowed to go, then he must be able to handle himself. Right?" Uraraka asks, trying to encourage you. You think. "I mean, yeah, of course. I just don't need that idiot hurting himself out there." Sero gets up and sits on the desk in front of yours. "I get that. Is he a student?" You nod. "Then there should be heros looking out for him." he says. You huff. "There are. I just want him to come back already." It was quiet for a second.

You were in your thoughts but then snap out of it. "Anyway. It's fine. I'll just wait until he's back."

Mina smirks at you. "So.. is this guy your boyfriend?" You blink at her. "Or is it partner?" she guesses. You don't answer for a second. "Uh... We're close?"

You still didn't fully understand the entire concept of relationships and often misinterpreted the meanings of words like partner or boyfriend. Usually you'd think of something like a project partner or a male friend. However, you'd understand once you were clued in. You were much more familiar with the word husband because of your fathers. Sure, you'd seen and heard things about couples on social media before, but you still didn't know much.

"Oooo so do you love him?" she asks. You cross your arms and mutter nonsense, refusing to say it in front of them, especially if Hitoshi wasn't even around. "Wow! I never took you as the type to be in love, Y/n!" Momo chirps. You shut them down. "Oh woah. No one said anything about being in love."

You were very much so aware that being in love was romantic, once again because of your fathers.

"Like one person ships us or whatever it's called but we're not romantic. I didn't realize that's what you were saying." Mina pouts. "What else would boyfriend and partner mean?!" You didn't answer her and instead shrugged her off. She starts staring at you, so you look back. "Quit staring." She smiles. "Hmm you might not like that guy but maybe he likes you." You furrow your eyebrows. "I do like him. And he does like me." She gives you a look. "You just said— Do you like him or not? I mean like like him." You sit there puzzled. "What's like like?"

She crosses her arms. "You're kidding right? You've never heard that expression before?" You shake your head. She hums. "Hm.. Alright. Like like is when you have feelings for someone.. like romantically, you know?" You shake your head. "Oh then no. We're just really close. No romance." She shrugs.

"You sure are an odd ball."
